This is not your standard concert. Unwind on a beanbag with a drink in hand while the award-winning Barokksolistene’s The Alehouse Sessions catapults you back in time to a jam session. Encounter dance, improvisation and storytelling as Usher Hall turns into a London pub straight out of the 1680s.

From whence comes our American Christmas tradition? Wassailing is ancient – it has variously meant welcoming, drinking, singing along, giving alms, or celebrating them all at once with a special mulled drink: the wassail! Bjarte Eike, Steven Player, and Emi Ferguson lead us on a merry merging of music and myth, creating a vibrant new tradition that deepens our roots to our antic past. Come sing, laugh, and recall a younger time when the nights were long, the frost was deadly, and pagan spirits and holy saints mingled in harmony. This performance will include refreshments.

Closing the 2025 season will be a new production of Purcell’s masterpiece Dido and Aeneas, featuring one of the world’s leading baroque ensembles, Barokksolistene, and offering fresh and vibrant arrangements of Purcell’s score. For the Longborough Emerging Artists and Youth Chorus, the opportunity to take part in this project will be inspirational, and for audiences, this promises to be a barnstorming end to a thrilling season. The project will be led by Bjarte Eike, one of the leading exponents in Baroque fiddle, and directed by Norwegian stage director and choreographer Erlend Samnøen.
