According to legend, Giuseppe Tartini received the inspiration for his highly virtuosic Devil's Trill Sonata in a dream – from none other than the devil himself. It goes without saying, then, that it is literally devilishly difficult. Fortunately, however, in star violinist Ray Chen, an artist whose breathtaking technique is more than equal to the work is on stage. And he is in excellent company: the Amsterdam Sinfonietta certainly needs no introduction. In Béla Bartók's sparkling Divertimento for String Orchestra, the top Dutch ensemble lets the mischievous humor of the Hungarian grandmaster sparkle. And after the interval, the audience can expect not only Pietro Locatelli's Concerto Grosso, but also Ray Chen again, who is sure to rock the hall with the tango impressions of Astor Piazzolla's "Cuatro estaciones porteñas."

Several young artists have already established themselves in Europe and are pursuing their careers. Accordingly, all three ensembles in the sofa concert have Latin American roots. They will meet in Salzburg for LatinoMozart and share the stage in the Vienna Hall. These sometimes unusual ensembles will present music from their countries, including two world premieres, and bring it into harmony with Mozart. "Todo cambia, menos el tango," goes an Argentinian proverb. "Everything changes, except the tango." And yet Astor Piazzolla succeeded in revolutionizing precisely this genre. His recipe for success: The composer complemented the rousing rhythms of the "Tango Argentino" with classical elements and jazzy timbres to create a finely balanced stylistic kaleidoscope. His "Tango Nuevo" was born, with which he rescued the traditional Argentinian tango from the disreputable establishments of Buenos Aires and established it as a virtuoso art form. While Piazzolla had to endure some hostility from his contemporaries for his "high treason against the tango," today he is celebrated for his stylistic revolution as one of the most important composers in modern music history. Since his death in 1992, his wife, Laura Escalada Piazzolla, has dedicated herself to preserving his valuable artistic legacy, launching the "Astor Piazzolla Quintet" project specifically for this purpose. As the only ensemble with access to the tango revolutionary's complete legacy, the ensemble has been faithfully bringing his unique sound into the present for 20 years – thus fulfilling Piazzolla's lifelong ambition to create a tango that would transcend time.

Astor Piazzolla machte den vormals verruchten Tango Argentino konzertsaalfähig; in seinem wohl berühmtesten Stück verabschiedete er sich mit sehnsuchtsvollen Klängen von seinem Vater. Darius Milhaud galt in den 1920ern als enfant terrible der Pariser Musikszene; als Attaché des französischen Botschafters in Rio de Janeiro schnappte er lokale Sounds auf und integrierte sie in seine Werke. A bit of time during your lunch break? Looking for an idea for a group outing? Every one or two months, you can simply drop by the Brahms Foyer of the Laeiszhalle on a Tuesday afternoon. Immerse yourself in a captivating musical journey through the seasons with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia's "Fullana & Four Seasons" concert. This exceptional performance, led by the virtuosic Francisco Fullana on violin, is set to enchant audiences on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 7:30 pm, and again on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 2:30 pm. The concert will take place at the prestigious Perelman Theater, located within The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts at 300 S Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19102.

The program promises an exploration of the four seasons through the lens of three iconic composers: Astor Piazzolla's vibrant "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires," Antonio Vivaldi's timeless "The Four Seasons," and Philip Glass's introspective "Preludes: The American Four Seasons." Francisco Fullana, celebrated for his "amazing talent" by Gustavo Dudamel and recognized with the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, will lead the performance. His interpretation is anticipated to weave the warmth of Itzhak Perlman with the aristocratic poise of Henryk Szeryng, creating an unforgettable musical experience.

The foyer is only there for the break - but why? This time we are daring to do something special: we are transforming the foyer with its cool atmosphere and also the music hall of our orchestra's own venue into a veritable exhibition hall to bring music and art lovers together. Nine large-format originals by the Nuremberg artist Manfred Hürlimann will be exhibited in the foyer of the music hall and the pictures will be in direct contact with the music. For the visitors, the dance-like sounds of the piano trio from the Romantic and Modern periods meet the power of Hürlimann's pictures of the classical muses of antiquity. In his three concert parts, both worlds transform the foyer and the music hall into a space that you have definitely never seen or experienced before.
