From greed to bootlegging to houses of ill repute, the colourful history of Toronto’s Jarvis Street is brought to life in the premiere of four mini-operas devised by the gifted composition students of the Faculty of Music.

Canada’s Grammy-nominated ARC Ensemble (Artists of The Royal Conservatory), a group dedicated to the recovery of suppressed and lost 20th century music, performs a program of rarely-heard works for clarinet, piano, and strings. 

Before the concert, enjoy a pre-talk by Maestro James Conlon, ARC Ensemble’s honorary chairman, and Simon Wynberg, the artistic director for ARC Ensemble. Recovered Voices Program Director Adam Millstein will moderate.

The ARC Ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary with Walter Braunfels's ravishing String Quintet, one of ARC’s early discoveries. The program also features the lush Romantic works of Frederick Block, whose thriving career was cut short in 1938 when he fled Vienna and moved to New York. Block's music has not been heard in over 75 years. ARC’s Artistic Director, Simon Wynberg, will introduce these two extraordinary composers.
