"Mountains of Brass" promises an afternoon of exceptional brass music, featuring a lineup of compositions that span a variety of styles and eras. The program includes Anthony Barfield's "Gravity," a piece inspired by Langston Hughes's poem "Dreams Deferred" and commissioned by the New York Philharmonic. Attendees will also be treated to the world premiere of "Little Piece for Brass Quintet" by David LeRoy Biller, a notable figure in the Austin music scene. The concert will also showcase works by Victor Ewald, Joan Tower, and Morley Calvert, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that celebrate the brass quintet's versatility and richness.

The performance will highlight the talents of Daniel Kelly & Richard Adams on trumpets, Lydia Van Dreel on horn, Lucas Borges on trombone, and Jesse Orth on tuba. This ensemble of principal brass players from the MahlerFest orchestra, along with Dr. Richard Adams, will bring to life a diverse and captivating program, perfectly aligning with the season's theme and showcasing the brilliance of the brass section.
