Seit 2010 spielen Ensembles der Staatskapelle im Bode-Museum, einem Juwel der Berliner Museumslandschaft. Matinee-Konzerte von gut einer Stunde Dauer im Gobelinsaal mit Musik aus den vergangenen Jahrhunderten können zwanglos in weitere Stunden im Museum übergehen – etwa bei einem Ausstellungsbesuch oder kulinarischen Ausklang im stilvollen Museumscafé.

As is often the case with John Butt's Dunedin Consort, Bach is it the heart of the programme. Star soprano Carolyn Sampson sings Jauchzet Gott which boasts a virtuoso trumpet obbligato and is one of the most purely joyous of all his works. She also performs Golden by the Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock who died tragically young. John Butt plays one of Handel’s organ concerti, matched with one of his masterful Op.6 Concerto Grossi. The programme is completed by Locatelli’s remarkable concerto grosso that tells without words the story of Ariadne, abandoned by Theseus on the island of Naxos.

Join us for an enchanting evening with Nosky's Baroque Band at the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 7:30 PM to 9:15 PM. Under the direction of the acclaimed Aisslinn Nosky, who also shines as the violin soloist, the ensemble will present a captivating program featuring masterpieces from the Baroque era.

The concert will open with Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco's Sinfonia in D Major, Op. 6, No. 12, a piece that showcases the composer's intricate style with movements ranging from the lively Allegro to the more subdued Grave. Following this, the audience will be treated to George Frideric Handel's Concerto Grosso in A minor, a work that exemplifies Handel's genius in the concerto grosso form with its contrasting moods and textures.

The program also includes Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer's Concerto Grosso No.1 in G major, a piece that combines elegance with expressive depth, and Pietro Antonio Locatelli's Concerto Grosso in E flat major, known as "il Pianto d'Arianna," which is celebrated for its emotional range and the virtuosic demands it places on the soloists.

After the intermission, the ensemble will perform Arcangelo Corelli's Concerto Grosso in C minor, a work that is quintessential Corelli, with its beautiful melodies and harmonious balance. Georg Philipp Telemann's Quintet Sinfonia Spirituosa in D major will follow, showcasing Telemann's innovative approach to composition. The evening will conclude with Antonio Vivaldi's Violin concerto in D major, "il Grosso Mogul," a piece that features dazzling virtuosity and dramatic contrasts, with Ms. Nosky as the soloist.

This performance marks a return for Nosky’s Baroque Band, which first delighted our audience in July 2023. The event is made possible through the generous support of The Arthur Loeb Foundation. In Passions Revealed, the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra takes you on a journey that dives into the rich, evocative, and stirring emotions found in works by Fasch, Locatelli, Vivaldi, Marais, Telemann, and Bach. 

The program explores a wide variety of colours and affects. We open with a rousing Fasch overture that conveys confidence and fearlessness. The strings are then featured in a hauntingly beautiful and wistful concerto grosso by Locatelli. A restless but ultimately hopeful journey through the night, from dusk to dawn, follows in Vivaldi's programmatic La Notte. We close the first half with a gorgeous celebration of love in the chaconne from Marais’s opera Alcyone.
