Isabel Valasek is a soprano based in Pittsburgh, PA. She is studying under Sari Gruber at Carnegie Mellon University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Vocal Performance, a certification in Music Education and a minor in Drama. This year in Carnegie Mellon Opera, Isabel performed as Lucy in “The Telephone” by Menotti and will also be in scenes such as singing Adele in “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss II, Lucy in "The Three Penny Opera" by Kurt Weill and Idamante in “Idomeneo” by Mozart. She was previously a soloist in Carnegie Mellon University’s fully staged production of “Considering Matthew Shepard” by Craig Hella Johnson and was a cover for Despina in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”.

**Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina**

This holiday season, immerse yourself in the joy and merriment of Irving Berlin's "Holiday Inn" at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. Running from November 30th to December 24th, 2023, with special preview performances on November 29th and 30th, this heartwarming musical is the perfect celebration for the whole family.

"Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn" tells the enchanting story of Jim, who leaves the glitz of show business to settle down in his Connecticut farmhouse. However, he quickly discovers that life is too quiet without a bit of song and dance. Fate smiles on him when he meets Linda, a vivacious schoolteacher with an abundance of talent. Together, they transform the farmhouse into a spectacular inn offering dazzling performances to celebrate each holiday, from Thanksgiving to the Fourth of July. Thank you for joining us for Opera in the Park on Saturday, September 10, 2022. It was a wonderful event filled with beautiful music! Our celebrity host Angela Brown performed an iconic aria from her upcoming role in Indianapolis Opera's Tosca, our Resident Artists had an incredible Indianapolis Opera debut, and Daniel Narducci brought a beautiful rendition of "Do you hear the people sing?" to this uplifting program. Joshua Thompson (Sock Joplin) performed a stunning piano rendition of "Troubled Water" by Margaret Bonds and paired with Jared Thompson on saxophone and soprano Angela Brown to light up the stage with "Trust" by Roy Hargrove with original lyrics by Jared Thompson. We are thrilled that so many of you were able to join us for this event. This Opera in the Park crowd was the largest yet!

Local favorites Steve and Allison Martin join HSO for festive selections from The Nutcracker, Leroy Anderson’s classic Sleigh Ride, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and some of the Martins’ favorite songs, including “The Prayer,” “O Holy Night,” and “Ave Maria.”  Rounding out the family-friendly concert will be the audience favorite “Christmas Singalong,” full of well-known holiday carols! Steve and Allison are well known in West Michigan, having sung on opera stages and musical productions locally and around the country.  Allison received her Masters of Music from Michigan State University.  Steve holds a doctorate and master’s in music from Michigan State University.  He has taught at the college level and is now Director of Music and Fine Arts at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.

British baritone Rodney Earl Clarke captured every heart when he starred in the Halle’s Christmas Concert a couple of years ago. We couldn’t wait to bring him back, so here he is with a sack full of treats for the festive period, including operatic and Hollywood favourites, as well as some chestnut-roasting seasonal classics. Our master of ceremonies is genial conductor Stephen Bell, who’ll be taking us through a roll call of Christmas hits from Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov and heartwarming movie music from Home Alone to Frozen. And as it’s Christmas you can enjoy some good old-fashioned audience participation singing along with White Christmas and trying to keep up with the reindeer in Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride.

Hollywood for the Holidays!

The wonderful Wisconsin-born soprano Emily Birsan -- now one of Chicago's indispensable classical artists -- returns following her exquisite "St. Cecilia Mass"  for another glorious French confection: Francis Poulenc's fabulous setting of the GLORIA, written in 1960 for the Boston Symphony....and once again, our LSO Assistant Conductor James Wilson will assemble a magnificent symphonic chorus for the occasion! A garland of classic American Holiday favorites graces the evening's first half, culminating in another brilliant return: La Crosse's own piano prodigy Andre Previn Peck, in Prokofiev's glittering First Concerto. John Finnegan's Christmas Sing-Along caps off what will be the perfect Holiday celebration.
