Conjuring a promenade along a mighty river or through an art exhibition, our season-closing performance is an exquisite journey that reunites JáTtik Clark with PCSO to perform composer Michael Daugherty’s exciting Reflections on the Mississippi. Maurice Ravel’s brilliant orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and John William’s thrilling Devil’s Dance add to musical memories that will embed themselves in your heart.

Flutist Brian Dunbar performs the West coast premiere of MOVEMENTS for Flute and Orchestra, a new work by trailblazing composer Carlos Simon. In a score that takes inspiration from themes of redemption and self-will, Simon inspires the uplifting sense of possibility also present in an iconic spiritual and the exuberance of Beethoven that complete this not-to-be-missed program.

Portland Columbia Symphony is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a knockout concert event on January 28th, 2023. The PCSO Spectacular at The Reser shows why this dynamic orchestra is so unique, with musical selections ranging from Vivaldi to Massenet, and pure classical to rock-symphonic fusion. This event will feature acclaimed violin virtuoso Alexander Markov, who also provides two original works to the concert – both scored for full orchestra and his custom-made six-string gold-plated electric violin – as well as special guest, Jimmie Herrod. The PCSO Spectacular is no ordinary concert – it is an experience!

In an evocative program that conjures up wild landscapes from Tasmania and Manhattan turf wars, the focus is on Grammy-nominated violist Brett Deubner. A recipient of a United States Congressional Certiﬁcate of Recognition, Deubner returns to perform two world premieres written expressly for him, including one by PCSO’s own (and Portland native) Nicole Buetti. A soulful and passionate performance.
