“Just when you thought Black Movie Soundtrack could not get any better, it did.” That’s what the LA Sentinel said last time—and we’re gonna do it again. With tributes to Quincy Jones and Prince, a live performance by Sinners’ Miles Caton, a couple of the greatest songs in hip-hop history, D-Nice keeping the party pumping with classic hits, and Derrick Hodge and Color of Noize Orchestra providing the oomph, Black Movie Soundtrack is bigger and better than ever, complete with film clips. Comic and actor Craig Robinson returns as your host on a night led and curated by bassist Marcus Miller and film producer Reginald Hudlin. See you at the movies!

If I Awaken in Los Angeles is a multimedia production blending spoken word, music, dance, and video to tell the story of our diverse and beloved city. Spanning the history of LA’s Indigenous stewards into modern-day metropolitan living, the production simulates a journey through several neighborhoods, including South Central, The Canyons, Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Koreatown, and more, leaving audiences ultimately transformed by the spirit of the communities they’ve encountered.  Award-winning producer and actress Gina Belafonte directs If I Awaken in Los Angeles, showcasing her vision of hope and civic engagement through art.

While he hails from Nigeria, Wizkid’s music has taken the world by storm. The singer-songwriter behind global megahits like “One Dance,” “Essence,” and the Grammy-winning Beyoncé collaboration “Brown Skin Girl” crafts songs that transcend borders and resonate with audiences everywhere. His ability to blend genres—from synth-driven club anthems to highlife and R&B—has earned him more BET, Soul Train, and Billboard Awards than any other African musician in history, alongside 19 trophies from Nigeria’s Headies. Since his debut at 19, Wizkid has continued to redefine global music, and at his Hollywood Bowl debut, he takes it to another level by collaborating with Derrick Hodge and the Color of Noize Orchestra.

Summer’s biggest party is back—now with a new partner! Since 1979, the two-day jazz festival has been a summer staple for adventurous listeners and fun-loving music fans in Los Angeles. In our first season with the Blue Note Jazz Club, you can go far out with jazz heroes like Lakecia Benjamin (whose Coltrane album you have to hear) or Joe Lovano’s excellent improv group the Paramount Quartet. NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater teams up with Grammy-winning pianist Bill Charlap, brass band royalty The Soul Rebels bring a little of that NOLA second-line spirit, and trumpeter Keyon Harrold shows why he was chosen to play Miles Davis’ parts in the Don Cheadle film Miles Ahead.
