Join us for an enchanting evening of tuba music featuring the talented Evan DeRicco at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music. This captivating recital is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 8:30pm CDT, held in the intimate setting of the Shirley Welsh Ryan Opera Theater. Evan, a Master of Music student under the guidance of Matthew Gaunt and Gene Pokorny, will showcase his exceptional skills alongside fellow musicians Chris Carrigg and Oliver Stark on euphonium, Noah Vincent on tuba, and Yoko Yamada-Selvaggio on piano.

The evening's program includes a diverse selection of works, from Bruce Broughton's Sonata for Tuba and Piano to Satoshi Yagisawa's Esmeralda, and a special transcription of J.S. Bach's Flute Sonata in E Minor, BWV 1034 by Aubrey Foard. The concert will also feature Ralph Vaughan Williams' Concerto for Bass Tuba, promising a rich blend of classical and contemporary pieces.

This event is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to experience the depth and versatility of the tuba in a chamber music setting. The Shirley Welsh Ryan Opera Theater, located within the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Center for the Musical Arts at 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, IL, provides a stunning backdrop with its double-height ceilings and expansive windows overlooking Lake Michigan. Hidden Gems

Hunter Kane is a tubist based in Pittsburgh, PA and is currently a second-year graduate student pursuing his Master of Music in Tuba Performance at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Hunter graduated from Louisiana State University in 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. He is a student of Craig Knox of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
