Prospect's annual Musical Theater Lab returns to the stage with a line-up of hot-off-the-presses, original short musicals created by a cadre of up and coming artists! This year's lab centers around the theme of food, with each of the writing teams bringing one course of a meal to the collective table. In a series of playful and profound new works, writers explore how we are what we eat – with food impacting every aspect of our daily lives from first date to family history.

In a world torn by conflict and on the brink of chaos, Dionysos, the god of wine and drama, seeks a singular savior among the playwrights. But who’s the greatest of them all? Descend with us to Hades and find out… Catch one of the most rarely-performed Sondheim shows in the canon, including what may be his most beautiful love song (“Ariadne”). Much in the tradition of our sold-out Anyone Can Whistle at Carnegie Hall, we’ll be giving THE FROGS the MasterVoices treatment – a lush 18-piece orchestra, top-tier casting, and the full 100+ MasterVoices Chorus, all under the skillful direction of Artistic Director Ted Sperling. Get ready for another Gershwin powerhouse! This rarely performed gem kicked off a masterful trio that came to include OF THEE I SING (performed by MasterVoices in 2017) and LET ‘EM EAT CAKE (2019). Expect soaring melodies, infectious syncopation, and a healthy dose of silliness!

A pointed satire, the show’s book (by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind) cries out to us from the 1920s about America’s increasing love of money, fear of foreigners, and penchant for war. But the real point is the lush Gershwin score – the overture alone will make you swoon, plus The Man I Love, I’ve Got a Crush On You, and more. Artistic Director Ted Sperling has teamed with writer and theater historian Laurence Maslon to fashion an entirely new edition of the show, just for MasterVoices. Learn More.
