Feel the groove of Golijov’s Last Round, written as an homage to tango legend Astor Piazzolla; Weston’s Juba for Strings, celebrating the music and dance birthed from the African diaspora; Wijeratne’s contemporary/classical mashup Two Pop Songs on Antique Poems, sampling Schubert’s Death and the Maiden; and Enescu’s lush and exuberant Octet for Strings, completed when he was just 19. Acclaimed young American pianist Drew Petersen is a sought-after soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. He has been praised for his commanding and poetic performances of repertoire ranging from Bach to Zaimont. He is the recipient of the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant and winner of the 2017 American Pianists Awards and Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship.

The event will also premiere new works commissioned by Kaleidoscope, including Peter Shin's Elgar’s serenade for strings no2, but you’re back in San José, and Julia Adolphe's All in Starlight, adding a contemporary touch to the evening. Other pieces include Valerie Coleman's Danza de la Mariposa, Trevor Weston's Juba, and Steven Snowden's Appalachian Polaroids, creating a rich tapestry of musical expressions.

This event is presented by the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, known for its commitment to innovative programming and the promotion of new music. Peter Shin’s commission is notably supported by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, highlighting the importance of contemporary classical music and its creators.
