Join us for a heartwarming evening at the Refuge Family Perelman Performing Arts Center as we present "Relatively Speaking: Family as Refuge," a unique concert that gathers artists from around the globe who share a common thread—making music with their family members. This special event, curated in collaboration with Trinity Church Wall Street and with programming consultant Annie Ohayon, is directed by the talented Sarah Benson.

"Relatively Speaking: Family as Refuge" is part of our Refuge concert series, designed to welcome the world through the universal language of music. The concert features an eclectic lineup of performers, including the Fanoos Ensemble, The HawtPlates, Martha Redbone Roots Project, The Villalobos Brothers, and Amal Murkus & Firas Zreik. Each act brings their unique blend of cultural and musical backgrounds to the stage, from Mexican folk and jazz to Kentucky blues and gospel, and from the rich musical heritage of Afghanistan to the modern and authentic sounds of Palestine.

- **Fanoos Ensemble:** A brilliant Afghan musical group led by famed singer Ahmad Fanoos, alongside his talented sons and Hewad Wardak, bringing the rich musical heritage of Afghanistan to the forefront.
- **The HawtPlates:** A family singing group from The Bronx, known for their unique vocal works and honoring their lineage through music.
- **Martha Redbone Roots Project:** A fusion of Afro-Indigenous Americana, blending folk, blues, and gospel with the eclectic grit of New York City.
- **The Villalobos Brothers:** Grammy Award-winning Contemporary Mexican ensemble, celebrated for their original compositions and arrangements.
- **Amal Murkus & Firas Zreik:** Renowned Palestinian singer Amal Murkus teams up with composer and Kanun player Firas Zreik, showcasing a wide range of musical genres and influences.

An interdisciplinary musical theater work, Bone Hill is inspired by four generations of singer-songwriter Martha Rebone’s family in the hills of coal-mining Appalachia. Traditional Cherokee chants, bluegrass, blues, country, gospel, jazz, rock, and funk are used to illuminate the family’s commitment to the land and an important part of American history that has remained untold.
