Dr. Andrew Last is the Weston Noble Endowed Professor and Director of Choral Activities at Luther College in Decorah, IA where he conducts the Nordic Choir, teaches conducting, and serves as the Artistic Director for Christmas at Luther.  Last is part of an exciting choral program at Luther College that includes three choral faculty, nearly 400 singers, five choral ensembles, numerous regional and national ACDA convention performances, and regularly presents choral/orchestra works.

He greatly increased participation in the University Chorus from an occasional course to a full public performance group, and created the University Chamber Singers. He founded a music education program and was an original faculty member of the African American and African studies program. As founder and longtime director of the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers in Los Angeles, he had a profound effect on the performance, preservation and presentation of African American spirituals.

Dwell Together takes its name from Psalm 133: "How pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." It’s the final line from Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, which will be presented in conversation with the Pittsburgh premiere of Joel Thompson’s powerful The Seven Last Words of The Unarmed, Julia Perry’s heart wrenching Stabat Mater, and other choral works.

In a program of music written entirely by living composers, the choruses at UC Davis perform works ideal for intimate concert venues such as the Pitzer Center. The repertoire incorporates many different choral traditions, including American Spirituals (including The Storm is Passing Over arranged by Barbara Baker), Venezuelan folk songs (La Paloma by Cristian Grases), Filipino or Visayan folk songs (Rosas Pandan, arranged by George Hernandez), and modern choral harmonies (as in Marques Garrett’s My Heart Be Brave).

MYCS is open to advanced high-school aged singers as part of the Michigan Youth Ensembles program.
