Before he electrified the world with Rent, Jonathan Larson was a young man struggling to make his mark in the theater. While he waits tables and seeks his big break, the pressure to give it all up grows as Jon approaches his 30th birthday. Will he sell out to keep the lights on? Will he lose the love of his life? Will he finally write the soaring song that can change everything? And if he does, will anyone be there to see it? Set in 1990 and scored by the music that redefined a genre, tick, tick… BOOM! cracks open the ticking-time-bomb world of creating theater to celebrate the power of finding your voice and holding on to a dream.

Experience the raw energy and emotion of "Rent" at the Conejo Players Theatre in Thousand Oaks. This vibrant production runs from June 14 to July 7, 2024, offering a glimpse into the lives of young artists and musicians navigating their existence and aspirations in New York’s Lower East Side amidst the HIV/AIDS crisis. With music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, "Rent" is a poignant narrative of love, loss, and the enduring spirit of youth.

Directed by Shawn Adams-Lanz and produced by Courtney Potter, the show boasts a talented cast including Brennen Klitzner as Roger, Quinn Husband as Mark, and Melina Ortega as Mimi, among others. The production is brought to life through the collaboration of music directors Kyle DeTarnowsky and Erin Fagundes, choreographer Danielle Reyes, and a dedicated crew.

Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m., with special performances on Thursday, June 20 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, June 29 at 2 p.m. This rendition of "Rent" is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). Due to its mature themes, "Rent" is not recommended for children.
