The Berklee Jazz Composers’ Workshop Orchestra will perform original works and arrangements featuring guest artist Ingrid Jensen.
 
Born in Vancouver and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Jensen is celebrated as a highly gifted trumpeter. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1989, she recorded three acclaimed CDs for ENJA, becoming a sought-after trumpeter globally. After teaching in Europe, she settled in New York City in the mid-1990s, performing in the jazz orchestras led by Maria Schneider (1994-2012) and Darcy James Argue (2002-present). Jensen has collaborated with Grammy-winning Terri-Lyne Carrington, Helen Sung, and the highly acclaimed all-star ensemble Artemis.

Msm Jazz Orchestra Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Wayne Shorter

The BMI Jazz Composers Workshop will present the best big band and jazz orchestra compositions produced throughout the year at its 34th Annual Summer Showcase Concert. The evening will feature the BMI/New York Jazz Orchestra, a 17-piece modern repertory ensemble made up of leading New York musicians, performing eight new compositions developed in the workshop this season. Additionally, the evening will feature a new commission from last year’s prize winner Helen Sung. The event is free and open to the public.

Jazz at Princeton presents the 2023 Princeton University Jazz Festival in a one-day event Saturday, April 15. Featured performances include Small Group X, Small Group A, Bird Calls, and many special guests, leading up to the headlining event with the Creative Large Ensemble.

The brainchild of pianist and composer Renee Rosnes, Artemis is an international ensemble of modern jazz masters. Named for the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt, the multinational and multigenerational group was founded in 2017 under the banner of International Women’s Day. Soon afterward, it made a memorable splash at the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival and followed that triumph with its debut recording on Blue Note in 2020. Each member of the ensemble is a composer and bandleader in her own right, so the collective’s repertoire draws on each player’s distinctive personality, from new compositions written expressly for the band to classics by Lee Morgan, Thelonious Monk, and Wayne Shorter. “A killer line-up of players…they all converge on this extremely cosmopolitan, sleek, rhythm-forward, modern sound” (NPR).
