Esteemed musicians Sean Jones, Dominick Farinacci, Curtis Taylor, and Tom Lehman will pay tribute to the outstanding educational program of the Tri-C JazzFest in its 45th anniversary season. The rhythm section will include distinguished alumni Jonathan Thomas on piano, Graham Guerin on bass, Gabe Jones on drums, and Patrick Grainey on percussion, ensuring a night filled with exceptional talent and jazz music.

Bassist Christian McBride was named artistic director of the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Summer Sessions (2000), co-director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem (2005) and creative chair for jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association (2005). He now serves as artistic advisor for jazz programming at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and as artistic director of the Newport Jazz Festival. From jazz to R&B to pop/rock to hip-hop/neo-soul to classical, McBride is a luminary with one hand ever reaching for new heights -- and the other extended in fellowship. McBride will be joined by Nicole Glover (sax), Ely Perlman (guitar), Mike King (piano) and Savannah Harris (drums).

Jazz at Princeton presents the 2023 Princeton University Jazz Festival in a one-day event Saturday, April 15. Featured performances include Small Group X, Small Group A, Bird Calls, and many special guests, leading up to the headlining event with the Creative Large Ensemble.

The brainchild of pianist and composer Renee Rosnes, Artemis is an international ensemble of modern jazz masters. Named for the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt, the multinational and multigenerational group was founded in 2017 under the banner of International Women’s Day. Soon afterward, it made a memorable splash at the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival and followed that triumph with its debut recording on Blue Note in 2020. Each member of the ensemble is a composer and bandleader in her own right, so the collective’s repertoire draws on each player’s distinctive personality, from new compositions written expressly for the band to classics by Lee Morgan, Thelonious Monk, and Wayne Shorter. “A killer line-up of players…they all converge on this extremely cosmopolitan, sleek, rhythm-forward, modern sound” (NPR).
