The HSO Wind Quintet presents a program of American Landscapes:  music of composers Amy Beach, Eric Ewazen, and Valerie Coleman evokes the calm of a New Hampshire forest, the grandeur of the Roaring Fork river in Colorado, and the bluesy southern charm along the Mississippi River. In anticipation of the THSO's 1812 Overture LIVE concert on November 4th, THSO Fourth Horn, Layne Anspach, will lead a presentation in collaboration with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). This session will provide attendees with a rich overview of historical and contextual information about the concert's repertoire, enhancing the live performance experience. The repertoire includes Richard Strauss’ "Don Juan" and "Death & Transfiguration," Eric Ewazen’s "Down a River of Time" for oboe and orchestra, and culminates with Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture in its entirety.

Trumpeter Jason Carder’s dynamic personality and nimble talent allow him to move fluidly from intimate jazz clubs to concert stages before audiences of thousands. As Yanni’s solo trumpeter since 2008, Carder has performed all over the world as well as record four live DVD’s. Hunter Kane is a tubist based in Pittsburgh, PA and is currently a second-year graduate student pursuing his Master of Music in Tuba Performance at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Hunter graduated from Louisiana State University in 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. He is a student of Craig Knox of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
