Join the Festival musicians for this annual concert presenting Mozart and more in our historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. The program includes Mozart's D major viola quintet, Ginastera's Impresiones de la Puna for flute and strings, and Dvorák's only string sextet. The winds also get a chance to shine in Poulenc's sonata for clarinet and bassoon.

This program celebrates the quintet in all of its forms. Pianist Stewart Goodyear joins forces with a string quartet for Hummel’s piano quintet; a string trio joins harp and flute for Francaix’s quintet; and we close with Beethoven’s only piece originally conceived for a string quintet. Also on the program is a rhythmic and lyrical duet for violin and soprano by Villa-Lobos.

LA Phil cello David Garrett curates this concert focused on Bohemian composers. Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 2 has been called his “manifesto on love,” whereas Bohuslav Martinů’s Third String Quartet shows the influence of the time spent by the Czech composer in the oft-called “city of love,” Paris, where he absorbed French Impressionism from the likes of Debussy. The second half features a String Quintet—which adds a double bass to the standard string quartet—by the composer who pioneered the quintessential Bohemian voice, Antonín Dvořák.

LA Phil violin Jin-Shan Dai curates a wide-ranging program that offers the orchestra’s bass players a rare chance in the chamber music spotlight. Opening the night is the Concertino by Erwin Schulhoff, whose music blends the late-Romantic style of his mentor Dvořák with elements of post-WWI expressionism and even jazz. Prokofiev’s Quintet picks up that early-20th-century thread with unapologetic glee, chromaticism, and Stravinsky-inspired rhythmic flair. The second half of the concert pivots to one of Franz Schubert’s most popular and loved works, the leisurely and uplifting “Trout” Quintet.

Scott Yoo hosts a musical and culinary adventure! Join him and the Festival artists for an exploration of Mozart's G minor Viola Quintet, which includes a string quartet plus an extra viola! Throughout the evening you will learn about the composer, hear performances of some selections, and gain insight into the piece. The evening will conclude with a gourmet plated dinner by Cass Winery Executive Chef Charlie Wayne, complete with wines from Cass Winery.

Join Scott Yoo for an interactive musical exploration of Dvorak's D major piano quartet. Throughout the evening you will learn about the composer, hear performances of some selections, and gain insight into the piece. The evening will conclude with a gourmet three-course dinner, complete with wines from Paso Robles winery <a>Kiamie Wine Cellars.

Join Scott Yoo as he presents a Notable Encounter Insight about Debussy's cello sonata.  In this informal, one-hour event, Scott and the musicians will discuss the history surrounding the piece, the composer's life and musical style, and perform selections from the work.
