Jeremy Denk is one of America’s foremost pianists. Winner of a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, and the Avery Fisher Prize, Denk was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Denk returns frequently to Carnegie Hall and in recent seasons has appeared with the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Cleveland Orchestra, as well as on tour with Academy St. Martin in the Fields, and at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms.

Pianist Jeremy Denk’s programming evokes a sense of “poetic logic” (Boston Classical Review) that has captivated PCMS audiences for decades. For this season’s appearance, Denk illuminates works by nine female composers from past and present.

Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint, for solo guitarist and 15 other pre-recorded guitar parts, is a cosmopolitan bop referencing west African drumming rhythms and the constant thrum of New York City, dedicated to Pat Metheny; a lively and heady mix only equalled by Sasha Scott’s Rush – an energetic work by one of the UK’s most exciting young composers.

The program includes some of Monk’s inimitable works for chamber ensemble, among them several that include movement, performed by exceptional students who will have worked with Monk during her distinguished visiting artist residency at Juilliard.

Join us for an exhilarating evening as the Curtis New Music Ensemble presents "Bold Experiment," a concert that delves into the musical and academic explorations of the 20th century. This event is part of the Curtis Institute of Music's centennial celebration, commemorating the visionary Bold Experiment initiated by Mary Louise Curtis Bok in 1924 when she founded the conservatory in Philadelphia.

The program will feature a selection of compelling works, including:

A highlight of the evening will be the performance of George Crumb’s "Black Angels," a haunting piece for electric string quartet subtitled "Thirteen Images from the Dark Land." Written during the Vietnam War, this composition captures the era's horrors, anguish, and upheaval, serving as a poignant parable for our contemporary world.

Lauded as one of ’16 Incredibly Impressive Students at Princeton University’ by Business Insider, American pianist Edward Leung has performed solo recitals and appeared with orchestras across North America, Europe, and Asia. 

Highlights of the previous season included a sold-out Wigmore Hall recital, chamber music performances with Julian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, Simon Callaghan, and members of Philharmonia Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. His debut album on Resonus Classics was critically acclaimed by BBC Music Magazine and featured on ABC Classic’s Festival of Female Composers and SWR2 Treffpunkt Klassik. A sought-after chamber musician, Edward has worked with members of the Artemis, Lindsay, and Elias String Quartets, as well as David Campbell, Willam Hagen, Viviane Hagner, Guy Johnston, Boris Kucharsky, Charles Neidich, and Rafal Zambrzycki-Payne.

One of the most unique and influential artists of our time, Meredith Monk is a composer, singer, director, choreographer, filmmaker, and creator that has devoted her life to exploring the potential of the human voice. A pioneer of extended vocal technique and interdisciplinary art, she weaves together new modes of perception to expand the boundaries of music, performance, and installation. This living legend returns to the Armory with her latest creation, an immersive work that is part performance, part installation, inspired by Indra’s Net, a parable that illustrates life’s interconnectedness.

Ellen Reid is this season's Composer in Residence at The Concertgebouw. During her Amsterdam adventure, she’s writing a piece for the Concertgebouw Orchestra as well as performing with them. ‘The most important thing is that the evening tells a story.’

Jess Gillam shot to fame becoming the first saxophonist to reach the finals of BBC Young Musician and the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms. She is now an international celebrity and has a regular presence in the UK, including her weekly Saturday afternoon show on BBC Radio 3; This Classical Life.

Formed in 2018, Dream House Quartet fuses decades of musical mastery of classical and contemporary forms, featuring luminaries the Katia and Marielle Labèque on dueling pianos along with acclaimed composer-guitarists Bryce Dessner (The National) and David Chalmin (innocence, la terre invisible) performing radical new commissions from visionary composers and pivotal contemporary works of the last half century. In its first-ever world tour, this all-star ensemble will bring singular interpretations of several highly influential works of minimalist pioneers and contemporary composers to Austin for the first time. The original double album Minimalist Dream House (released in 2013) gathered interpretations of compositions by pioneers of minimalism and their successors, including Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt, Thom Yorke, Aphex Twin and Brian Eno – artists who bend musical time and space as much as the Labèques, while enjoying the paradoxical freedom of minimalism’s limitations. The Austin premiere of Dream House Quartet will feature new works by Dessner and Chalmin (commissioned for the group) as well as works by Meredith Monk, Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
