**Le Comte Ory at Opéra de Québec**

**About the Opera:**
First performed in Paris on August 20, 1828, "Le Comte Ory" is an opera in two acts known for its intricate libretto by Eugène Scribe and Charles Gaspard Delestre Poirson. The story, set during the Crusades, follows the mischievous Count Ory as he attempts to woo Countess Adèle, who is in love with Ory's cousin, Isolier. The opera is celebrated for its exquisite balance of comedic elements and musical sophistication, avoiding vulgarity while captivating the audience with its charm.

Casco Phil is present for an accessible concert packed with beloved classics. A few highlights have been selected from the heyday of symphonic music, which together form an anthology of the best that orchestral literature has to offer. From the enchanting Morgenstimmung by Grieg and Pavane by Fauré, to the Spanish fire of De Falla's Danza Ritual del Fuego, to the lurid Intermezzo from Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana, Casco Phil traverses almost the entire emotional spectrum in a bird's eye view. In addition, we are looking forward to two solo works: the beautiful Romance No. 2 by Beethoven and the devilishly difficult Polonaise de Concert by Wieniawski. Rino Yoshimoto, a Japanese violinist from the ranks of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, invites her audience to an evening full of memorable melodies, intimate lyricism and symphonic splendor.

Known to her adoring fans as the “Valkyrie of the piano,” Venezuelan pianist, composer, and opera star Teresa Carreño (1853-1917) stunned audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. Like Cuban violinist-composer José White, Carreño received support from American composer Louis Gottschalk in New York City, and concertized widely in Europe, before returning to America, and then to Venezuela, where she attempted to found a conservatory and opera company. This program weaves together the rich tapestry of Carreño’s life and influence, featuring her works alongside those of her teachers, friends, and students, and even a husband.

In this Loh concert we combine a promising musical program, open-air atmosphere and culinary delicacies to create a special evening. The overture to Gioacchino Rossini's opera "Il barbiere di Siviglia" exudes airy lightness, while Hector Berlioz explores the tragic facets of love in his famous song cycle. The expressive melodies and subtle instrumentation are unparalleled. The strings of the Loh Orchestra accompany the break in the open air in front of the octagon house with Mozart's famous serenade "Eine kleine Nachtmusik", during which you can also indulge in culinary delights.

Join us for an exquisite afternoon of vocal performance as Abigail Arnold, a talented soprano from the Northwestern Bienen School of Music, presents her student recital. This event is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 2:30pm CDT, in the intimate setting of the McClintock Choral and Recital Room. Abigail, a Bachelor of Music student under the guidance of Pamela Hinchman, will be accompanied by Timothy Zhang on the English horn and Jason Carlson on the piano.

The recital will feature a carefully selected repertoire that showcases Abigail's versatile vocal range and expressive capabilities. The program includes:

- Richard Strauss's "Ständchen" from Sechs Lieder, Op. 17, "Breit’ über mein Haupt" from Sechs Lieder aus Lotosblätter, Op. 19, and "Amor" from Sechs Lieder, Op. 68.
- Francis Poulenc's "Airs chantés," FP 46.
- Gioacchino Rossini's "Ah donate il caro sposo" from Il signor Bruschino.
- Traditional and contemporary Chinese songs by 尚德義 and 赵季平.
- Benjamin Britten's selections from "On this island," Op. 11.

Immerse yourself in the exquisite world of chamber music with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks at two enchanting concerts. The first performance will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 8:00 pm in the majestic Max Joseph Saal of the Munich Residence. The musical journey continues on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 6:00 pm at the serene Evangelische Akademie in Tutzing.

These chamber concerts will showcase a carefully curated program that includes Michael Haydn's Quartet for English horn, Violin, Cello, and Bass in C Major, P 115, and Ludwig van Beethoven's Serenade in D Major, Op. 8.
