Praised by the American Prize for their “careful choices, elegant phrasing and beauty of sound virtually always,” The Luminae Trio, based in New York City, performs lesser-known music of the past and present alongside beloved classics. The group, comprised of pianist Jestin Pieper, cellist Jacob Nordlinger, and violinist Elizabeth Wright, formed during the Covid-19 pandemic as a response to the need to keep the arts alive. Individually, its members lead active performing and teaching careers, having performed in Europe, Asia, South America, Canada, and throughout the United States, on stages including Carnegie Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium, United Nations, and the Kennedy Center.

There’s an elusive logic that occurs only in dreams, that nocturnal state where the human mind processes the flood of impressions and information it takes in every day, sifting and sorting without interruption from the waking world. In this very special and wide-ranging program, Manchester Music Festival artistic director Philip Setzer is our guide through a vivid, varied dreamscape in sound—a journey epitomized by composer Paul Epstein’s appropriately titled Dreamsonata, which leaps from Viennese ballroom sounds to midwestern ragtime in the blink of an ear. The rest of the program blazes a similarly unlikely yet ultimately harmonious path, from the courtly String Quartet of Benjamin Franklin (yes, really) to Samuel Barber’s elegiac Adagio for Strings, by way of Scott Joplin, Amy Beach, and Carlos Simon.

KASA Quartet, First Prize winner of the 2017 Coltman Chamber Music Competition, was founded in the summer of 2016 by Andy Liang, Aaron Schwartz, Stephanie Price-Wong and Kyle Price. KASA utilizes its fluency in multiple styles to curate fresh, innovative, genre-defying performances that harken the classical standard repertoire and fuse it with favorites of the jazz, musical theater, folk and pop standards. The quartet takes pride in creating and interpreting original arrangements and transcriptions of works by Jacob Collier, Marvin Hamlisch, George Gershwin among others. The ensemble has taught and performed as featured artists for the Ravinia Festival, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Austin Chamber Music Center, Second City Chamber Series, Miami Music Project, and Chamber Music Connection in addition to holding a residency each summer at the Caroga Lake Music Festival since its inception. KASA’s shared passion for bringing multiple genres together for their programming has attracted various audiences and presenters from different musical interests together for memorable performances and projects. KASA released its debut album in 2022, Forever Wild, Vol. 1 with each track featuring guest collaborations spanning a wide array of genres and styles.

As echoes of The Lark Ascending continue to resonate across the town, we look forward to bringing another vibrant programme of string repertoire to the Victoria Theatre, celebrating the very best of English music alongside inspiring works from around the world. The programme includes Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Greensleeves, Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and Grieg’s much-loved Holberg Suite.

We are especially pleased to premiere a new arrangement of Malcolm Arnold’s English Dances and to share the stage with talented young musicians from the Calderdale Music Youth Ensemble. This special concert provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase our award-winning work with schools and community groups across the region before we return to Calderdale again in August.

"Orpheus' Comet" by the Bulgarian-English composer Dobrinka Tabakova is a homage to Monteverdi's opera "L'Orfeo" and the Orpheus myth in general. At first, a buzzing swarm of bees appears to be circling the orchestra—an allusion to the beekeeper Aristaeus, who (according to the myth) was responsible for the death of Orpheus's lover, Eurydice. Gradually, solemn melodies emerge, and at the end, the (slightly altered) opening hymn from "L'Orfeo" resounds, pompous as a stadium fanfare.

Escher String Quartet has received acclaim for its profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty. In its home town of New York, the ensemble serves as season artists of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Brandon Patrick George, hailed as a “knockout musician with a gorgeous sound” by The Philadelphia Inquirer, is a GRAMMY-winning flutist whose repertoire extends from the Baroque era to today. He is the flutist of Imani Winds and has appeared as a soloist with the Atlanta, Baltimore, and Albany symphonies, American Composers Orchestra, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, among others.

After his brilliant performance at the Cathedral Concert in June 2024, conductor Jan Söderblom returns to the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. Harry Burleigh was key in forging a quintessential American musical language, which modified the gorgeous modal inflections of spirituals with the chromatic ambiguities of Wagner’s harmony. Featuring Abigail Nims, Mezzo-Soprano | This exciting program, inspired by vocal music, features a world premiere for large orchestra by the Italian composer Massimiliano Messieri. He will join Maestro Moore for a pre-concert talk at 6 PM. The concert also includes mezzo-soprano Abigail Nims performing Amy Beach’s Wand’ring Clouds, which was the first composition by a woman to be performed by the Symphony Society of New York in 1892. Additionally, Vaughan Williams' stunning and spiritual blend of ancient and modern elements is showcased in Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, which features two string orchestras. Finally, Respighi’s Pines of Rome promises to be a sonic spectacle not to be missed!

Although it has been said that Mozart did not particularly appreciate the flute, he nevertheless dedicated to it, in addition to a concerto in which he married it to the harp, a Quartet that does not fit into any box: imitating a theme by Paisiello in the first movement then obeying hilarious indications in a Rondeau noted as "gracefully animated, but not too fast, not too slow either, moreover, like this... like that... with a lot of fire and expression", the flute stands out for its caprices. Emmanuel Pahud delights in it, before defending pieces by the Lyonnais Ferroud and the American Amy Beach.

Eric Luebke is a fourth year music education student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As a singer, Eric has performed in the University Opera and in the community of Madison through solo and chamber performances with First United Methodist Church, Madison Youth Choirs, and Just Bach. Eric also plays piano, bass guitar, and percussion, and has worked at the UW–Madison Summer Music Clinic for three consecutive seasons. As a composer, Eric recently premiered his original work, “She Walks in Beauty,” featuring text by Lord Byron, with C8dence, a chamber ensemble at the university.

This unforgettable evening is rooted in the past—its struggles, its stories, and the ways composers reflect on what came before. We begin with Brahms’ Tragic Overture—a storm of drama and complexity, full of weight and philosophical tension. From there, cellist Tae-Yeon Kim, winner of the Lutosławski Competition and not yet 20, brings lyrical fire to one of the cornerstones of the Cello Repertoire -  Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor. Towering and intimate, this is Romanticism at its most human. The program closes with Amy Beach’s “Gaelic Symphony”—a groundbreaking work rich in lush harmonies and folk-inspired themes. Written as a response to Dvořák’s New World Symphony, Beach chose to honor her own roots, weaving the songs and spirit of Irish immigrants into a sweeping symphonic landscape filled with all that we love about the Romantic Period. Charles Koechlin and Camille Saint-Saëns represent two generations of Parisian music, while Mahler (and his younger colleague Schoenberg) were both active in Vienna.

The programme presents a diverse selection of solo and chamber music, ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach and Clara Schumann to James Lee III and Missy Mazzoli. Audiences will also have the rare opportunity to hear works by lesser-known composers such as Emmy Schäfer Klein and Leokadiya Kashperova. The ERSO Chamber Ensemble will be joined by a chamber arrangement of Wolfgang Amadus Mozart’s well-known Rondo in D major for piano and orchestra. Additional featured composers include Amy Beach, Florence Price, and Nadia Boulanger.

The HSO Wind Quintet presents a program of American Landscapes:  music of composers Amy Beach, Eric Ewazen, and Valerie Coleman evokes the calm of a New Hampshire forest, the grandeur of the Roaring Fork river in Colorado, and the bluesy southern charm along the Mississippi River.  The program concludes in Michigan, with a piece commissioned and premiered in the state: Samuel Barber’s famous Summer Music.

Set sail on a season of breathtaking music with a concert that sweeps from the stormy seas to the grandeur of the opera stage. Rossini’s William Tell Overture launches the evening with cinematic energy, followed by Amy Beach’s Bal Masqué, a dazzling orchestral dance. Acclaimed baritone Kenneth Overton joins us once again for selections from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, bringing wit, drama, and passion to these operatic masterpieces. Finally, Debussy’s La Mer immerses us in the ever-shifting beauty of the sea, painting an orchestral canvas of movement and light. With sweeping melodies, captivating drama, and a touch of the unexpected, this season opener promises an evening where music dances, waves crash, and imagination soars.

JoAnna Farrer is the Concertmaster of the Savannah Philharmonic, and a member of the New Jersey Symphony. She has performed as a soloist with many ensembles, including the GoteborgsSymfoniker, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic. As a concertmaster, she has worked with conductors such as James Conlon, James DePreist, and Lorin Maazel, including performances of Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw” at the Kennedy Center with Maestro Maazel. In previous seasons, Farrer has served as guest concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and toured with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada.

“The rich diversity of American society has fostered a vibrant tapestry of musical voices, each shaped by their own distinct backgrounds. Michael and I curated this program for violin and piano to celebrate that spirit of innovation and cultural exchange, highlighting works composed during the twentieth century. We begin with Fritz Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro, a lush reimagining of Baroque melody. Charles Ives follows with his inventive Violin Sonata no. 4, blending hymns, folk tunes, and bold harmonies to create a vibrantly eclectic soundscape of American life. The first half closes with Ernest Bloch’s Violin Sonata no. 2, Poème mystique, which shifts to a more introspective tone, offering profound emotional depth rooted in his Jewish heritage. The second half opens with John Adams’s Road Movies, a rhythmic portrayal of contemporary life, and continues with Amy Beach’s Romance for Violin and Piano, honoring one of America’s pioneering female composers. We conclude with Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess Suite, a brilliant fusion of classical and jazz traditions–a testament to the cultural mosaic of twentieth-century American music.”
