The MSO will close out its Classics Series with Ludwig van Beethoven’s epic Symphony No. 9. This symphony has reached beyond concert halls across the globe and become part of popular culture, most notably with the “Ode to Joy” theme in the final movement. Featuring the MSO Chorus and four spectacular vocal soloists, this concert captures Beethoven’s vision of hope with power, and authenticity.

The final concert of the season, Passage, closes our symphonic journey with the high school and collegiate division winners from WSO’s Young Artist Competition in their symphony rite of passage, performing their concertos with the orchestra. The Young Artist Competition fosters young talent and celebrates our rich musical landscape in Wyoming. As we end the season, we are excited to perform Amy Beach’s Symphony No. 2, “Gaelic,” the first symphony composed and published by a female American composer. Gaelic begins with a low, chromatic rumble that builds into the romantic style of this symphony. Gaelic themes are introduced and the melodies become slow in nature before ending on a brisk and thematic note.

Join us for an enchanting afternoon of violin music as Mia Huang takes the stage at the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall. This Bachelor of Music student, under the tutelage of Desirée Ruhstrat, will perform a captivating recital featuring works by Franz Schubert, Amy Beach, and Camille Saint-Saëns. Accompanied by Nathan Canfield on piano, the program includes Schubert's Violin Sonatina No. 1 in D Major, Op. 137, Beach's Romance for Violin and Piano, Op. 23, and Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3 in B Minor, Op. 61.

This event is scheduled for Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 2:30pm CDT, and will be held at the prestigious Galvin Recital Hall, located within the Ryan Center for the Musical Arts at 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, IL.
