Dave Bennett doesn’t fit the mold. For starters, you don’t find many jazz clarinet players named Alice Cooper, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Chris Isaak among their influences. You won’t find many musicians who are equally conversant with the music of Benny Goodman (the “King of Swing”) and Roy Orbison (“The Soul of Rock and Roll”). You may not find even one other clarinet virtuoso who breaks from his Swing Era repertoire to sing rockabilly hits while accompanying himself at the piano or electric guitar.

Truth in Jazz big-band, sponsored by Horizon Transport, is celebrating their 26th Anniversary in 2024.  The band brings together local professional musicians who share a deep love for big-band jazz.  This 18-piece group has performed with Jiggs Whigham, Eddie Severn, Harry Waters, Mike Smith, Todd Williams, Victor Haskins, Patrick Hession, Jay Jehl, and many more. Truth in Jazz continues in the big-band tradition and adds new arrangements based on jazz standards. Truth in Jazz is led by Steve Allen and features vocalist Erica Kinsman.

A Whole Lotta Shakin’: Swing to Rock is an adrenaline-infused showcase of Dave Bennett’s talents on clarinet, electric guitar, piano, drums and vocals. Bennett may be known for his clarinet virtuosity, but his musicianship defies category; he is an all-around performer inspired by a myriad of decades and genres of music. His performance in Daniels Pavilion will feature music from the swing era to rock 'n' roll, and will be saturated with feel-good nostalgia and foot-tapping tunes. Audiences will hear classics by Benny Goodman, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and more, as well as some originals by Bennett himself. Don't miss out on this lively evening!
