The renowned Czech ensemble Capella da Camera Praga will present the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons in the Church of St. Simon and Jude, with whom we will move from the Baroque to the Classical period. The programme is thematically linked to the September concert Bach and Sons I.

He was perhaps the greatest genius in music history, later eclipsed, if at all, only by the child prodigy Mozart. Yet Johann Sebastian Bach not only gifted posterity with numerous musical masterpieces, but also with several sons, some of whom followed in their all-powerful father's footsteps. First and foremost, Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Sebastian Bach's second eldest son, whose "sensitive" style made him the most popular Bach of the second half of the 18th century—while Johann Sebastian Bach's eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann, was famous during his lifetime primarily for his phenomenal improvisational skills on all keyboard instruments. When Asya Fateyeva and her fellow musicians perform Baroque sonatas by the Bach dynasty, they do so on an instrument that Bach himself could not have even known, for the saxophone was not invented until the 19th century. When the saxophonist approaches early music on a comparatively modern instrument, she does so in the spirit of Bach: He was not only interested in the compositional possibilities of new or improved instruments such as the "Well-Tempered Clavier," but was also extremely flexible in instrumentation questions in his masterful compositions.

Bach's Third Brandenburg Concerto is full of charm and virtuosic lightness. Fast, playful rhythms and tension-filled exchanges between the strings and the continuo ensure pure listening pleasure. With a Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major, also known as the "Jeunehomme Concerto," Mozart demonstrates his genius in handling the piano as a solo instrument: The first movement begins with a powerful dialogue between the orchestra and the soloist, setting the tone for the entire concerto. Particularly in the second movement, Mozart's ability to lead melodies is evident, while the finale creates a lively and spirited atmosphere. In addition to these highlights of the Baroque and Classical periods, the premiere of a short piece by the sixteen-year-old Georgian composer Tsotne Zedginidze will be performed in this concert by the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, with Zedginidze also appearing as a soloist on the piano.

The program features a carefully curated selection of classical masterpieces, beginning with Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's Fugue in F minor for Violin, Viola, and Cello, followed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Adagio and Fugue in C minor for Strings, K. 546, and Quartet in E-flat major for Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello, K. 493. The highlight of the evening, Franz Schubert's Quintet in A major for Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass, D. 667, "Trout," promises to captivate the audience with its lyrical beauty and innovative instrumentation.

The performance will feature an ensemble of world-renowned musicians, including Wu Han on piano, Julian Rhee and Arnaud Sussmann on violins, Paul Neubauer on viola, Sterling Elliott on cello, and Anthony Manzo on double bass. Each artist brings their unique talent and passion to the stage, contributing to a rich, immersive listening experience.
