Chris Botti's latest project, Vol. 1, marks a fresh start for the trumpeter, focusing on acoustic jazz and classic standards. This album, produced by the legendary David Foster, features a stellar group of collaborators, including pianist Taylor Eigsti, bassist Zach Moses, keyboardist Julian Pollack, saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and veteran drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. Special guest musicians include Israeli guitarist Gilad Hekselman, classical violinist Joshua Bell, Uruguayan-born guitarist Leonardo Amuedo, pianist Esteban Castro, and singer-songwriter John Splithoff.

Biography:Carsen Codel is a Political Science major in the College of Arts & Sciences with minors in Legal Studies and Jazz Studies and Performance. He has played classical piano for 14 years, jazz piano since 8th grade, and jazz guitar since his sophomore year at WashU. During his time at WashU, Carsen has served as the President and Treasurer of the Run Club and also has worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a tour guide. He has continued his passion for music throughout his four years by being a DJ at KWUR 90.3 FM, playing shows around St. Louis with friends, and releasing a full length LP. After college, Carsen plans on taking a gap year in West Des Moines with his family and then attending law school. He hopes to keep up his music practice, performance, and production for many years to come and is very excited to share his senior recital to celebrate the fulfilling musical experience he has had at WashU!

This unique concert, titled "An Evening of Thelonious Monk & Miles Davis," promises to be an unforgettable experience as it brings a fresh perspective to the timeless compositions of these musical geniuses.

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) collaborates with the incredibly talented local saxophonist Xhosa Cole and his quartet, alongside the renowned jazz legend Guy Barker, to reinterpret the classic works of Monk and Davis. The evening will feature arrangements by Guy Barker and performances that breathe new life into the iconic pieces, ensuring a jazz experience like no other.

The full program includes a special set by the Xhosa Cole Quartet, with arrangements of Miles Davis's pieces by Guy Barker, and a segment titled "Thelonious Monk: Reimagined." Highlights of the night will include a 25-minute rendition of "Kind of Blue" and a comprehensive showcase of Monk's and Davis's repertoire, lasting approximately 50 minutes.
