Premiered in Aix-en-Provence in 2021 and making its American premiere in San Francisco, Innocence makes clear the power of the opera stage to tell emotive stories impossible in any other art form. Saariaho specialist Clément Mao-Takacs leads an international cast of singers and actors in this towering work performed in multiple languages.

It's a farewell concert for the ages. The Grant Park Music Festival's Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Carlos Kalmar steps down after 25 storied years. And with his usual flair, Carlos marshals a massive cast of friends for Gustav Mahler's glorious "Symphony of a Thousand," including eight world-class soloists, the Grant Park Orchestra, the Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen children's chorus under the leadership of daughter Katja Kalmar and the Grant Park Chorus under Christopher Bell.

Painter Georgia O’Keeffe and her husband Alfred Stieglitz tell their love story in Kevin Puts’ poignantly romantic The Brightness of Light, a BSO commission composed for Renée Fleming. Wendall Harrington designed the accompanying lush projections based on images from O’Keeffe’s life and work. The program opens with two high-spirited Mozart works dating from his early Vienna years, when he was creating a new life as an independent composer.

Boston Symphony Orchestra

Mozart’s razor-sharp comedy is back in a delightful production by director Michael Cavanagh. A stylish set by Erhard Rom updates the action to a swanky American country club, bursting with kitsch and color. James Conlon conducts a fantastic ensemble cast, led by longtime LA Opera favorites Ana María Martínez and Rod Gilfry as the schemers behind the deception. Featuring an endless parade of exquisite ensembles, Mozart’s deliciously scandalous opera is a can’t-miss for newcomers and seasoned fans alike.
