Lighting Designer

This trio of works shines a light on some of the world premieres that PNB’s New Works Initiative has created in recent years. Donald Byrd’s haunting Love and Loss premiered in 2019, Alexei Ratmansky’s stunning tribute to his homeland of Ukraine, Wartime Elegy, followed in 2022, and inventive Australian choreographer Danielle Rowe will create something brand new for PNB dancers this November. In the final production of our 50th Anniversary Season, we turn our eyes to the future. This mixed bill features choreographers on the cutting edge, who help us imagine what ballet may become over the next century. What voices will be featured? Whose stories will be told? Discover the beginnings of answers in world premiere works from Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Kiyon Ross, as well as the on-stage premiere of Edwaard Liang’s innovative take on human connection, The Veil Between Worlds.

Experience the unmatched energy of this PNB fan-favorite extravaganza, complimented by the joyous, pure dance spectacle of George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, an early PNB Balanchine acquisition, and a world premiere by Alexei Ratmansky (Don Quixote, Pictures at an Exhibition).

Carmina Burana

FELLOW PASSENGERS is a staged telling of one of the most important stories ever written. Three voices share the story of literature's famous haunted man, Ebenezer Scrooge and his joyful discovery that the people around him are his "fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys". Directed by Rhonda J Soikowski, this experimental adaptation by Greg Carter restores much of the ghost-story language lost in traditional dramatic interpretations. The story is accompanied by composer/keyboardist Ayako Okano.

This brand-new production of The Sleeping Beauty promises to enchant with scenic design by glass artist Preston Singletary and costumes by Paul Tazewell (Hamilton, West Side Story, PNB’s Swan Lake).
Step into a world of magic and monarchs in this historically-informed re-imagining of a classic tale. Walk with Princess Aurora through a Pacific Northwest-inspired fairyland, as she fulfills her destiny in a ballet full of adventure, dreams, and love.

Twyla Tharp’s American masterpiece Nine Sinatra Songs is still sharp 40 years after its premiere. In it, Tharp effortlessly floats between dance genres, set to the familiar strains of Frank Sinatra hits. Two pieces from innovative choreographers Rena Butler and PNB’s own Kiyon Ross round out the program, and promise to connect us with our inner desires while allowing us to touch the stars.
