Gary Hill is a sought after guest conductor and clinician in the instrumental music education field. He is a Professor Emeritus of Music and Director of Bands at Arizona State University.

Conductor Rebecca Tong leads the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in this celebratory program that honors Women’s History Month. Violinist and Sphinx collaborator Melissa White returns to Hilbert Circle Theatre to perform Florence Price’s Violin Concerto. The program also features six female composers from around the world, including Brazil, the United States, China, Canada, Indonesia, and Mexico. Florence Price was a trailblazer who created a successful career at a time when there were few opportunities for female composers. The rest of the composers featured continue to blaze trails in the 21st century with their wide range of styles and perspectives, standing at the forefront of classical compositions today.

The constitution’s preamble begins with the words “We the people,” a term which over the centuries has taken on a life of its own. In the context of our concert, entitled Composers Without Borders – The Ties That Bind Us, we focus on the unity of humankind, not individual governments, whether open and honest or repressive and evil. There are countless common threads present in people from all over the globe. The desire and ability to express oneself through music is one which cannot be suppressed by leaders of countries. Music unifies and uplifts all people. Our concert highlights the unending compositional creativity of mankind despite the complicated interrelationships of the countries represented.

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music as the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra presents "Tradition & Innovation" on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 3:00 PM. This captivating concert will take place at the Performing Arts Center at Oak Ridge High School, located at 1450 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN.

Under the baton of Music Director Régulo Stabilito, the orchestra will embark on a musical journey that bridges the past and the present. The concert will open with an intriguing piece for chamber orchestra and electronica by Grammy award-winning American composer Mason Bates. His piece, "Auditorium," explores the concept of an orchestra being possessed, setting the stage for an evening of mesmerizing music.

Although there has been a program change and the previously announced guitar soloist will not be performing, the concert will still feature a rich selection of works. Audiences will be treated to Ludwig van Beethoven's delightful Symphony No. 8, Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin," and Chen Yi's "Sprout," creating a program that celebrates innovation while honoring the traditions of classical music.

Following the concert, attendees are invited to join us for our Fall Fundraising Feast, "Symphony & Sichuan," a gourmet Chinese culinary experience. This unique event will provide an opportunity to savor exquisite dishes while supporting the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.

Celebrate the year of the Rabbit with Chinese composer Chen Yi’s ‘Ge Xu’.  Vowing to give up composing anything other than film music until Hitler was defeated, Korngold’s ‘Violin Concerto’ was that first such piece after the end of WWII.  Hear Minnesota Orchestra Assistant Concertmaster Rui Du bring it to life.

The Topeka Symphony is delighted to offer Chen Yi’s beautiful Romance and Dance, featuring our Concertmaster Zsolt Eder and Assistant Concertmaster Kenya Patzer. We will also present our Young Artist Competition Winner, and we’ll play Sibelius’s Second Symphony, which Sibelius described as “a confession of the soul.” The symphony is grandiose, profound, and ecstatic, and its love themes range from love of country to a meditation on Don Juan, the notorious Italian lover.
