This special student recital, featuring Doctor of Musical Arts student of Mallory Thompson, will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 7:30pm CDT in the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall. The program includes an exciting lineup of compositions by Stephen Lias, including "Ebullience," "Blue True Dream of Sky," "The Quest," and "Mount Rainier Search and Rescue."

This event is free and open to the public, with no tickets required. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the live stream of the performance. The Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall, located at 70 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston, IL 60208, offers a stunning 400-seat venue with a 40-foot glass wall providing breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. The hall's acoustics are enhanced by undulating walls covered with African moabi wood, ensuring an unparalleled auditory experience, complemented by state-of-the-art sound and video recording equipment.

Then, lose yourself in the mystic allure of Alan Hovhaness' ‘Mysterious Mountain,’ a symphonic masterpiece exploring nature's sublime mysteries. Feel the spiritual resonance in Leonard Bernstein's ‘Chichester Psalms,’ a harmonious blend of ancient texts and modern melodies brought to life by the Lancaster Symphony Chorus. Finally, revel in the heartwarming music from Aaron Copland's pastoral Suite from ‘The Tender Land.’

With the United States nearing its 250th anniversary, Summit, Myths & Music honors the landscapes and myths that have defined the country’s spirit. Carl Nielsen’s Helios Overture traces the sun’s grand ascent over the Aegean, filling the orchestra with brilliance. Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes follows—an evocative seascape of shimmering blues, stark silences, and surging waves. The mystery of Mount Rainier unfolds in Stephen Lias’s It Stands Alone, a powerful multimedia tribute commissioned in partnership with the National Park Service to honor Mount Rainier National Park’s 125th anniversary. The evening concludes with Dvořák’s American Suite, where dance-like melodies and rustic harmonies celebrate the composer’s love for the New World.
