In our 2024-25 Season we ring in the holidays with the 10th anniversary of The Nutcracker. Celebrate a decade of Grand Rapids Ballet’s beloved Nutcracker at DeVos Performance Hall with live accompaniment from the Grand Rapids Symphony to Tchaikovsky’s renowned score. Enjoy your favorite holiday performance with immersive sets imagined by Chris Van Allsburg and designed by Eugene Lee, gorgeous choreography by Val Caniparoli, and memorable dancing by Grand Rapids Ballet’s company dancers. Follow Clara’s as she receives a magical nutcracker doll from her mysterious godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer. At night, the nutcracker comes to life and leads Clara into a grand battle against an army of mice. After helping the Nutcracker defeat the Mouse King, Clara is guided on a magical adventure by the elegant Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier through the Land of the Sweets where she befriends confections and enjoys a festive celebration.

The Grand Rapids Ballet returns to perform their re-envisioned production of The Nutcracker, played by our own Symphony Orchestra. Experience the holiday magic with Clara as she journeys to the Land of Sweets with the Nutcracker, a gift from her mysterious uncle. Featuring choreography from world-renowned Val Caniparoli, with the dancing set against a distinctive and lush storybook set created by celebrated The Polar Express author/illustrator Chris Van Allsburg and designed by Tony® Award winner Eugene Lee.

Ballet West presents a captivating new production of "Jekyll & Hyde," a full-length ballet inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's 19th-century novella. This performance delves into the dark and complex duality of human nature, exploring the psychological struggle between the virtuous Dr. Jekyll and his malevolent alter ego, Mr. Hyde. Choreographed by Val Caniparoli, the ballet features an evocative score composed by Frédéric Chopin, Henryk Górecki, Wojciech Kilar, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Henryk Wieniawski, performed live by the Ballet West Orchestra. Following the success of last year's "Dracula," this production promises to be equally gripping, offering a dynamic and nightmarish portrayal of one of literature's most iconic characters. The performance is noted for its strong adult content, making it a compelling choice for those interested in a more mature and psychologically intense ballet experience.

Havoc is unleashed on Victorian London when one man struggles with the terrifying dance between the good and evil that lies within. Colorado Ballet will treat audiences to a U.S. premiere of full-length ballet Jekyll & Hyde, choreographed in 2020 by Val Caniparoli. Inspired by the classic Gothic novella by Robert Louis Stevenson, this neoteric production explores the depths of the human psyche and features music by acclaimed composers Frédéric Chopin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Górecki, Wojciech Kilar and Henryk Wieniawski.

Following two years of record-breaking box office success, Val Caniparoli’s and Ma Cong’s energetic and colorful production of the holiday classic will delight Tulsa audiences of all ages. Join us for this story of a young girl’s magical journey on Christmas Eve, set in 19th century Germany. From the epic battle between the Nutcracker Prince’s army of toy soldiers and the Mouse King’s rodent minions, to the enchanting land of the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Kingdom of Sweets, a cast of over 100 local children joins the dancers of Tulsa Ballet to create a lifetime of memories. The Nutcracker is sponsored by The H.A. and Mary K. Chapman Charitable Foundations and the Suzanne and Jim Kneale Family Foundation.

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Val Caniparoli challenges classical technique and speed with humor and his unique style in company premiere of Tutto Eccetto Il Lavandino (everything but the kitchen sink). Two Sacramento Ballet alumni add works to our program. Isaac Bates-Vinueza further evolves his piece Rumor from its crowd-pleasing premiere at Beer & Ballet and Nicole Haskins premieres Groundless Shift on The Sofia stage. Nicole has graced Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Choreography XX, the New York Choreographic Institute, and now serves as Ballet Idaho's Trainee Division Director.
