ICONS is a podcast series of personal monologues based on figures from the Harlem Renaissance curated and directed by CTH’s Literary Director, Shawn Rene Graham and developed by The Classical Theatre of Harlem in partnership with Venus Radio Theater.  We are proud to launch our 2nd season with a focus on Hispanic and Latinx voices.  ICONS 2: El Barrio Lives! explores the rich history of East Harlem, by commissioning four writers of Latinx descent to breathe life into lesser known figures from Latin America and the Caribbean, whose impact on the Harlem community from the early part of the 20th century resonates today. The Venus Radio Theater on the Air began in 2018 in Harlem with a pilot program of twelve writers, with more than half being PoC, LGBTQI, Female, or Person with Disabilities. Their goal is to redefine how theater companies create art and create practices that best serve our artists and global community.

Icons 2: El Barrio Lives!

Winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize, Martyna Majok's powerhouse play receives its Broadway premiere after a celebrated run at MTC's Stage I. Hailed by The New York Times as "gripping, immensely haunting and exquisitely attuned," this insightful, intriguing work is about the forces that bring people together, the complexity of caring and being cared for, and the ways we all need each other in this world. Kara Young and David Zayas join acclaimed original stars Gregg Mozgala and Katy Sullivan in this production, again directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney.
