Join us for an enchanting evening with Nosky's Baroque Band at the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 7:30 PM to 9:15 PM. Under the direction of the acclaimed Aisslinn Nosky, who also shines as the violin soloist, the ensemble will present a captivating program featuring masterpieces from the Baroque era.

The concert will open with Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco's Sinfonia in D Major, Op. 6, No. 12, a piece that showcases the composer's intricate style with movements ranging from the lively Allegro to the more subdued Grave. Following this, the audience will be treated to George Frideric Handel's Concerto Grosso in A minor, a work that exemplifies Handel's genius in the concerto grosso form with its contrasting moods and textures.

The program also includes Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer's Concerto Grosso No.1 in G major, a piece that combines elegance with expressive depth, and Pietro Antonio Locatelli's Concerto Grosso in E flat major, known as "il Pianto d'Arianna," which is celebrated for its emotional range and the virtuosic demands it places on the soloists.

After the intermission, the ensemble will perform Arcangelo Corelli's Concerto Grosso in C minor, a work that is quintessential Corelli, with its beautiful melodies and harmonious balance. Georg Philipp Telemann's Quintet Sinfonia Spirituosa in D major will follow, showcasing Telemann's innovative approach to composition. The evening will conclude with Antonio Vivaldi's Violin concerto in D major, "il Grosso Mogul," a piece that features dazzling virtuosity and dramatic contrasts, with Ms. Nosky as the soloist.

This performance marks a return for Nosky’s Baroque Band, which first delighted our audience in July 2023. The event is made possible through the generous support of The Arthur Loeb Foundation. The Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra continues its tradition of popular baroque concerts with an array of sparkling selections. Concerto grossi by George Frideric Handel and Evaristo Felice Dall’Abaco offer an exciting interplay of solo lines with spirited responses by the full ensemble. The virtuosity of Concertmaster Maria Arrua will be featured in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4. Gracious music by Jean-Philippe Rameau and thrilling music for trumpet, oboe, and strings by Georg Philipp Telemann will round out this joyous program.
