Telegraph Quartet Recital

San Francisco Conservatory of Music

The Telegraph Quartet formed in 2013 with an equal passion for the standard chamber music repertoire and contemporary, non-standard works alike. Described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “…an incredibly valuable addition to the cultural landscape” and “powerfully adept… with a combination of brilliance and subtlety,” the Telegraph Quartet was awarded the prestigious 2016 Walter W. Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Grand Prize at the 2014 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. The Quartet has performed in concert halls, music festivals, and academic institutions across the United States and abroad, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Chamber Masters Series, and at festivals including the Chautauqua Institute, Interlochen Arts Festival, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, and the Emilia Romagna Festival. The Quartet is currently on the chamber music faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as the Quartet-in-Residence.

Telegraph Quartet

The Telegraph Quartet, SFCM's ensemble-in-residence, presents classics in the chamber music repertoire as well as a work by a living composer. Following pieces for string quartet by Franz Joseph Haydn and Gabriela Lena Frank, the Telegraph members invite four students to join them for a performance of one of the most celebrated chamber music works, the Mendelssohn Octet. The students in this performance were selected through the Telegraph Players Chamber Competition paneled by the Telegraph members.

A special community performance..
Three classic silent films, with original music by Stephen Prutsman performed by festival musicians, recreate the cinema experience of 100 years ago, before recorded sound was integrated into film making in the 1920's.  The main attraction is a Buster Keaton classic, Sherlock Jr. from 1924. A Trip to the Moon (1902) is considered the earliest science fiction flick, while The Cameraman's Revenge (1912) is one of the first-ever animated films.
