Next up is Murray, KY’s Chris Thile, on mandolin and vocals performing ATTENTION! A narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra, co-commissioned by the Louisville Orchestra. Chris Thile, who is called “a genre-defying musical genius” by NPR, offers his own musical take on the American experience. The bluegrass mandolinist behind Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek brings his newly written narrative song cycle that he says tells “the true story of the time I attempted to impress a Starbucks executive and accidentally met Carrie Fisher as a result. It’s a DOOZY!”

90.5 WUOL Presents the Louisville Orchestra’s Season Opener “Our Kentucky Home” featuring special guest Chris Thile. We open our Season celebrating many things Kentucky in this concert featuring composers, performers, and compositions related to our great Commonwealth! Included in the program is mandolinist extraordinaire Chris Thile, who gives the Kentucky debut of a piece for mandolin and orchestra called ATTENTION! A narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra. We also share works by Bartók and Prokofiev, inspired by folk and classical music from around the world.  Plus, we’ll spotlight a work by Creators Corps veteran Lisa Bielawa and Hazard resident Lindsey Branson.
