NEC's Piano Department marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Charles Ives with two programs of his works for piano. 

Tonight's program - '“Ives Extended” - includes The Celestial Railroad, the Set of Five Take-Offs, works by Carl Ruggles, Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell, and rarely heard music for two pianos in quarter-tones by Ives, David Fulmer, and Georg Haas.

Left Coast explores the voices of women composers of California in song, both historical and contemporary, ranging from Elinor Remick Warren and Carrie Jacobs-Bond to Vivian Fung, Addie Camsuzou and Gabriela Lena Frank. Works for piano by Gabriella Smith and Henry Cowell complement the program which spans more than a century of Californian music.

Join the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable evening of music and celebration at the "Saluting Our Own" concert. This special event is set to take place on October 21, 2023, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Viterbo Fine Arts Center, located at 929 Jackson Street, La Crosse, WI.

The concert will feature a diverse and captivating program, including Bradley Lebakken's arrangement of "America the Beautiful," Henry Cowell's "Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 10" for Oboe and String Orchestra with Mary Beth Hensel on oboe, Samuel Zyman's "Fantasia Mexicana for Two Flutes and Orchestra" with Jonathan Borja and Aalia Hanif on flutes, Paul Creston's "Concertino for Marimba" with Matthew Coley on marimba, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade, Op. 35" with Aaron Schwartz on violin.

Enhance your experience with pre-concert live music in the FSPA lobby, featuring cabaret seating starting at 6:30 pm. Don't miss the Concert Preview with Maestro Alexander Platt at 6:45 pm in the Viterbo Dance Studio. After the concert, indulge in Cookies & Coffee with the Maestro, with treats from Meringue and coffee from Moka. The night doesn't end there; join us at La Cav for a Post-Concert Party from 10:00 pm until midnight, offering specialty drinks and savory snacks.

Celebrating Our Artists conducted by Maestro Andrew Sewell highlights SLO Symphony musicians as soloists, including Concertmaster Emily Lanzone, Principal Second Violin Timothy Shanks, Principal Oboe and English Horn Jessica Hoffman, Oboe Heidi Butterfield Yi, and Flute Carol Houchens. The program also includes SLO Youth Symphony Concert Strings performing side-by-side with their SLO Symphony counterparts.
