The Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas has been making music with radiant, instinctive joy since age four. Her deeply expressive performances—marked by a rare blend of technical refinement and emotional immediacy—have made her one of the most compelling artists of her generation. Highlights of the 2025–26 season include performances with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Taiwan Philharmonic, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Bochum Symphony Orchestra, and a five-city tour with Euskadiko Orkestra. In October 2025 Thomas curated a week of Paris-inspired concerts at the Viva Cello Festival in Switzerland. The world held its breath in 2021 when the then–22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman, wearing a canary-yellow coat, recited her poem The Hill We Climb at the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden. Her delivery felt like a blend of performance and sermon as Gorman sketched her own “American Dream”: “We will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.” She struck a nerve, responding to contemporary anxieties while offering hope. On 11 September 2026, the 25th anniversary of the devastating terrorist attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington, Amanda Gorman will appear at Lucerne Festival. Together with cellist Jan Vogler, she will shape an evening of poetry and music. Gorman’s visionary verses meet Johann Sebastian Bach’s incomparable suites for solo cello — a bridge across 300 years. She recites between the movements, and at times even speaks directly into the music. The result is a dialogue that, as Vogler emphasizes, strengthens our faith in humanity and offers many surprising insights.

Academy of Ancient Music joins the renowned Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir for the opening concerts of Arvo Pärt Days 2026.
The music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Arvo Pärt seems to touch upon something mysteriously ancient - yet full of new life. In this much-anticipated collaboration, conductor Tõnu Kaljuste leads AAM and EPCC in a performance of works by two composers who capture the timeless quality of the sacred.

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC) is one of Estonia's highest profile ensembles internationally. The repertoire of the choir extends from Gregorian chant and baroque to the music of the 21st century, with a special focus on the work of Estonian composers, such as Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Galina Grigoryeva, Toivo Tulev, Tõnu Kõrvits, Helena Tulve, and introducing their output to the world.

Turning brass into gold: five young trumpeters from Great Britain, Sweden, and Ukraine know the formula that countless alchemists have sought in vain. Founded four years ago at London’s Royal Academy of Music, Fiveby5 produces a radiant, golden brass sound with a brilliant sheen and has already won numerous prizes. Most recently, the quintet won the prestigious Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition in 2025. This success has, among other things, led to their appearance at “In the Streets: City Stage”: the varied program ranges from Bach, Rameau, and Mozart to the rousing Hoe-Down from Aaron Copland’s cowboy ballet Rodeo.

Musik für 3 Streicher, a product of the composer’s mid-20s, sets out to encompass the span of human emotions and experience. Ilya Gringolts, Lawrence Power and Nicolas Altstaedt begin their expedition through the string trio repertoire with two movements from Wolfgang Rihm’s monumental work. Their programme also includes the remarkable Ricercari by Roman Haubenatock-Ramati, who escaped Nazi and Stalinist persecution to join General Anders’s Polish Army and survived the Second World War to become editor of new music for Universal Edition in Vienna.

Few can match the dazzling brilliance and zen-like focus that Boris Giltburg brings to every performance. His latest Wigmore Hall recital would command attention for no other reason than its inclusion of Liszt’s Sonata in B minor, a titanic monument of Romantic music. Yet the Moscow-born Israeli pianist places Liszt’s single-movement masterwork in company with a succession of musically powerful, technically-demanding compositions, crowned by Gaspard de la nuit, Ravel’s mesmerising suite of character pieces.

Genre-defying South African cellist Abel Selaocoe returns as soloist in the UK premiere of American composer Jessie Montgomery’s These Righteous Paths – inspired by her late mother, the poet and playwright Robbie McCauley. The concert opens with Bach’s mighty Fantasia and Fugue in G minor in Andrew Davis’s colourful orchestral arrangement. After the interval comes the monumental power of Beethoven’s ‘Choral’ Symphony: a musical cry for freedom and brotherhood that culminates in the radiant ‘Ode to Joy’. This concert marks Gianandrea Noseda’s return to the podium of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra after his final appearance as its Chief Conductor 11 years ago.

West London Chorus celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a concert featuring three of the greatest composers of the 18th century.

In 1707, the 22-year-old Handel was living in Rome, a time when operatic performances were forbidden. That ban in no way precluded his composition of vivid, dramatic music, as is demonstrated by two psalm settings: Nisi Dominus (Psalm 127) and in particular, Dixit Dominus (Psalm 110), whose tremendous energy and exuberant choruses mark it as one of his finest works.

London Mozart Players perform the most popular of J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, No. 3, noted for its unusual two-movement structure and the energy of its complex instrumental interplay.

We invite you to listen to the incendiary cello music at Paliesius Manor! Augustas Gocentas will perform – a Lithuanian cellist, born into a musical family in Vilnius. He began studying the cello at the MK Čiurlionis School in the class of Ramutė Kalnėnaitė, and also studied piano for eleven years in the class of Jūratė Rudaitienė. The cellist received his bachelor's and master's degrees at the Sibelius Academy and in 2024 became a member of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.

2025 Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Aristo Sham brings his "lucid and gripping" artistry to the intimate Music Room for a program centered on the transformative transcriptions of Ferruccio Busoni. This afternoon recital highlights Sham’s technical mastery through a curated selection of Brahms character pieces, including the soulful Intermezzo in A Major and the spirited Capriccio in C Major. The second half of the performance focuses on Busoni's iconic arrangements, featuring the monumental Bach Chaconne and Chopin’s Variations on Prelude in C minor. As the newest Cliburn winner, Sham continues the competition's legacy of elite pianism with a performance that balances late-Romantic introspection with towering virtuosity.

Its reprises both works this evening, placed together with JS Bach’s contemplative solo cantata Ich habe genug and three superb instrumental works.

Cameron Carpenter is both a pop star and a bird of paradise. For years, the dazzling organist has thrilled audiences around the world with the traveling organ he specially designed. But during the coronavirus pandemic, it was irreparably damaged. Over ten years ago, the keyboard virtuoso made his "Toccata" debut in Duisburg, and now, after a long absence, he returns to the magnificent Eule organ in the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle. Yet he remains true to his penchant for the unusual, playing the Goldberg Variations, a work written by Johann Sebastian Bach for a two-manual "clavicimbel"—or harpsichord for short. To this day, this enigmatic cycle remains one of the pinnacles of piano literature: 30 variations, some of which pose horrendous technical challenges and offer tremendous expressive depth, based on an "aria" of timeless beauty. Before Bach's masterpiece, as a kind of prelude, Cameron Carpenter plays one of the three chorales composed by César Franck shortly before his death in 1890, which are considered the pinnacle of his organ output. Originally written for the magnificent organ in the Parisian church of Sainte-Clotilde, where Franck served not only as Kapellmeister but also as organist.

All stops are pulled when organist Sebastian Heindl plays our Eule organ, demonstrating the versatility of his instrument with a virtuosic program. As a modern representative of the centuries-old Leipzig music tradition, Heindl opens his program with Bach. After warming up his fingers – and the audience – with the virtuosic cascades of the Toccata in F major, he leads through a mini-panorama of organ music, in which he also presents his own compositions. The thrilling conclusion is formed by Camille Saint-Saëns' "Danse macabre," arranged for organ by Heindl himself – dance-like, grotesque, and dizzyingly virtuosic.

Sixteen musicians from the ranks of the Berliner Philharmoniker will be taking part when Richard Gowers takes to the organ. The young organist from London has become no stranger to Berlin since his Philharmonie debut almost two years ago. At that time, he performed with the Philharmonic brass players to great success, which soon gave rise to the wish to experience the 30-year-old once again in the Philharmonie. No sooner said than done.

The Hamburg State Orchestra's Philharmonic Concerts become ZeitSpiele and transcend the boundaries of the ordinary: In this concert, Daniela Terranova's orchestration of Bach's music on the one hand and her compositional dialog with Beethoven on the other will be heard - for the third movement of his 6th Symphony will be replaced by a new composition from her pen, inspired by the original.

The Hamburg State Orchestra's Philharmonic Concerts become time-plays, transcending the boundaries of the ordinary: This concert features Daniela Terranova's orchestration of Bach's music and her compositional dialogue with Beethoven – the third movement of his Sixth Symphony is replaced by a new composition by her, inspired by the original. Beethoven confronts us today as a mirror of the past and, through Terranova, as a part of the here and now. This unabashed musical interplay opens new perspectives on our musical culture, our thinking and being, and our way of receiving music.

On the second half, LACO cuts loose with Telemann’s Don Quixote suite and Biber’s Battalia, inviting you to dance into the night at this wedding themed program.

Vintage baroque meets pure rock in this spirited double bill. Because when Vilde Frang and Kammerorchester Basel tackle Bach together, you know sparks will fly. The Norwegian string queen chose not only a violin concerto but also a harpsichord concerto, massaged into string music. And then there are Mendelssohn's string symphonies, brimming with youthful exuberance, and the Holberg Suite, in which Grieg proves that the spirit of Bach lingers even in the Far North.

Experience the artistry of Sir András Schiff in his dual role as pianist and conductor. One of today’s foremost interpreters of Bach and Mozart, he leads from the keyboard in a sunny concerto by each. He then takes the podium for Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony, a piece inspired by the composer’s travels in the dramatic landscape of the Scottish Highlands.

The MZ Duo, made up of Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi and Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz- Berrade, presents a programme of creative reimaginings of the classical repertoire, reaching as far back as JS Bach’s whirlwind Flute Sonata in E Minor and Edvard Grieg’s landmark Holberg Suite, to a Dixieland interpretation of Eric Satie’s iconic Gnossienne no. 1, and finishing with a much- loved exploration of Astor Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tango.

A unique collaboration between outstanding young musicians and an expert on the music of J.S. Bach, the Gamut Bach Ensemble prides itself on stylistically sensitive, earnest, and insightful performances. Directed by Koji Otsuki, the Ensemble embarks on its annual program of cantatas in the luminous Church of the Holy Trinity.

Violinist Liza Ferschtman (‘00), known for her “laserlike intensity, purity, and refined beauty of playing” (New York Times), and pianist Benjamin Hochman (‘01), celebrated for his “elegant, polished, and heartfelt” playing (Boston Globe), lead a piano quintet ensemble with emerging artists Leah Amory, Davin Mar, and Carson Ling-Efird from Curtis Institute of Music. The program will begin with Bohuslav Martinů’s exuberant Three Madrigals and Beethoven’s “Ghost” piano trio, and close with Brahms’ masterful Piano Quintet in F minor.
