For the young Benjamin Britten, a holiday in Prestatyn was the key to a new world of musical wit and invention. That’s the starting point for this colourful guided tour through the wild, wonderful (and often astonishing) universe of 20th century British piano music: masterpieces and miniatures by Britten, Warlock, Moeran and Tippett, all brought sparkling to life by virtuoso pianist and RWCMD artist-in-association Llŷr Williams.

This year the concert kicks off with a specially-commissioned Fanfare by Composer-in-Residence, Owain Park and Vaughan Williams’ beautiful ‘Fantasia on Christmas Carols’ with additional readings from the Christmas story. Carmina Burana opens and closes with the crashing opening chords of the familiar O Fortuna. Between these bookends are 5 major sections, 25 movements and a performance sure to strike awe and impress all. The cantata, composed in the 1930s and based on the medieval poetry collection of the same name, is brought to the stage in fitting grandeur by the full force of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Conducted by Pete Harrison and joined by over 120 members of the BSO Voices choir singing in monumental harmony, the power of this performance promises to make this an unforgettable experience.
