Starving artists all, this crazy cadre of young friends bear their poverty with laughter and grace, until it devastates them with unspeakable tragedy.  With beloved favorites like “Che gelida manina,” “Quando m’en vo, ”and “Donde lieta uscire,” Puccini’s divinely romantic score memorably illustrates the joys, struggles, loves, quarrels, triumphs, and tragedies of six  friends and lovers as they embody the true vie de bohème.

When her interest turns to the charismatic bullfighter Escamillo, José's enraged jealousy leads to catastrophe. Canio’s not clowning around. His beautiful wife Nedda longs to be free of his clumsy embraces, of her life as a traveling actor, and from the advances of the vile Tonio. When Canio catches her with her lover Silvio, only the start of the troupe’s performance can stay his hand … but not for long. Leoncavallo’s gritty and gorgeous score, based on a true incident witnessed by his policeman father, culminates in one of the most famous and tragic tenor arias of all time: “Vesti la giubba,” the original “Tears of a Clown.”

I Pagliacci

Roald Dahl’s beloved book comes to the stage in a vibrant new production. The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)  follows the story of 8-year-old Sophie as she learns about the lives of giants, dreams, and friendship. You just never know where you might find unexpected kindness and a little bit of bravery!

Two operas, two betrayed husbands, two tragic ends. In Cavalleria rusticana the calm of a Sicilian Easter morning is broken by a betrayed lover who sets off a chain of events culminating in violent tragedy. In true theatrical tradition Pagliacci’s clown tries to go on with the show, but his real-life humiliation and despair lead to a grim climax. The violent passions and raw emotions of these two works changed the direction of Italian opera forever.
