New York during the eighties, the Reagan years. A mosaic of stories about people struggling with love, sexuality and the disastrous consequences of AIDS. Louis deserts his friend Prior, who is terminally ill. The marriage of Joe and Harper Pitt falls apart. The right-wing lawyer Roy Cohn discovers that neither power nor money will protect him from death.

In Part One: Millennium Approaches, lives begin to fracture as illness, politics, and fear pull people away from their families, partners, and faith. In Part Two: Perestroika, the world cracks open, and new bonds form as the characters struggle toward healing, forgiveness, and change.

Angels in America is in two parts: Millennium Approaches and Perestroika and will be presented on alternating evenings in rep. Directed by Rec Room Artistic Director Matt Hune and Associate Artistic Director Sophia Watt (Heroes of the Fourth Turning).

Set to a powerful pop-rock score, Evita charts Eva Perón’s meteoric rise to political “sainthood.” The celebrated musical unfolds against a backdrop of political strife in Argentina from 1934 to 1952, following Eva’s journey from ambitious actor to first lady before her untimely death at age 33. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece was last seen on the Muny stage in 2001 and includes the beloved songs “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Oh What a Circus,” “Buenos Aires” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall.”

Swann is an digital aria based on the legacy of William Dorsey Swann, a lesser known but crucial historical figure born into slavery in 1860. Swann came to be the first self-identified “queen of drag” in the US. He organized drag balls in Washington, DC in the latter part of the 19th century, and his arrest was the first in documented history for female impersonation. Swann was also the first American on record to pursue legal action to defend the right of LGBTQ people to gather. In this digitally native work, Tamar-kali and librettist Carl Hancock Rux present two worldviews to us simultaneously: one, a joyful party hosted by Swann, with his sentiments spoken by a rich baritone voice; and the other, the Voice of Judgement, the arresting officer, is hauntingly sung by a countertenor. Though the two world views are unreconcilable, here they coexist.

On the edge of the wilderness, four friends gather at a backyard party to honor their mentor and the newly inaugurated president of a conservative Catholic university. It has been years since they last met and as the celebration runs deep into the night, their reunion spirals into spiritual chaos and a vicious fight to be understood.

The impacts of Robin’s decision ripple through her newly-formed family creating consequences animal in nature. Caught in the middle, the child launches himself on a lone wolf’s journey to find a pack he can call his own.
