Written and arranged by Kahane, the music moves between pop and chamber music. Performed live, the work unfolds as a series of connected stories carried entirely by the human voice, showing both the range of Roomful of Teeth as performers and the emotional precision of Kahane’s writing.

Aside from Nicola Vicentino's complicated arcicembalo, other written testimonies by Gesualdo's musicians implicate that he composed according to a common lute’s meantone temperament. Audiences may hear that the prince went out of tune to express himself after killing his wife and her lover.
