Young artists from Caramoor’s Evnin Rising Stars mentoring program perform in a pair of afternoon concerts for which the program’s Artistic Director, cellist Marcy Rosen, is joined by distinguished artists Soovin Kim, violin, and Daniel Phillips, viola. These concerts are the capstone of a weeklong residency at Caramoor in which these young musicians participate in workshops, reading sessions, and ensemble rehearsals, culminating in live performances with their mentors. Since 1992, this program has identified some of the finest musicians of the next generation and helped them cross the threshold from their student years into the early stages of a professional career.

From pleasing to provocative, intellectual to insouciant, this program sheds light on the many facets of 20th-century Mexican and Argentinian classical compositions. Feel the passion and intensity of the tango in Piazzola’s renowned “Seasons”, juxtaposed with the exhilarating and profound string quartet “Música de Feria” by Revueltas. The program also features the graceful compositions of Manuel Ponce, offering a glimpse into the elegant charm of his musical creations. Works by 20th-century composers Alberto Ginastera (Argentina) and Mario Lavista (Mexico) top off an exciting and varied program.

Five exceptionally talented young musicians, each chosen for a coveted spot in the 2024 Apprenticeship Program, take the stage for a showcase concert. During the Festival, Apprentices work with VMMF Faculty Artists, immersing themselves in the theory and practice of historical performance. Repertoire includes favorites of the 18th and 19th Century chamber music repertoire.

South Orange Performing Arts Center

In collaboration with Music for Food, Musicians from Marlboro present a concert of Coleridge-Taylor, Dvořák, Webern, and Schoenberg in support of local hunger initiatives. General admission tickets are $30, available for purchase on Marlboro’s website, and additional donations will be accepted online and at the door. 100% of donated proceeds will go to Women’s Lunch Place.

Join us for an enchanting evening of classical music at the Evnin Rising Stars I concert on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 8:00pm in the Chamber Music Room at Caramoor, Katonah, NY. This special event showcases the immense talent of young artists from Caramoor’s Evnin Rising Stars program, a prestigious incubator for the next generation of classical musicians.

Under the guidance of Guest Artistic Director, cellist Marcy Rosen, and accompanied by distinguished artists Shmuel Ashkenasi on viola and Edgar Meyer on double bass, the evening promises a repertoire that spans the works of Boccherini, Dohnányi, Mozart, Schubert, and Edgar Meyer himself. This concert is a unique opportunity to experience the vibrancy and skill of rising stars Maria Ioudenitch, Lun Li, Amarins Wierdsma, Njord Fossnes, Cara Pogossian, Gabriel Martins, Chase Park, and Janice Carissa as they perform pieces that challenge and showcase their growing artistry.

The program includes Luigi Boccherini's Quintet in A Major, Op. 29 No. 4, G. 316, Edgar Meyer's Quintet, and Ernő Dohnányi's Piano Quintet in C Minor, offering a rich evening of musical exploration and enjoyment.
