The Mithras Trio, comprising Ionel Manciu on violin, Leo Popplewell on cello, and Dominic Degavino on piano, will take you on a musical journey through time. The evening's repertoire includes the Germaine Tailleferre Piano Trio 1916/17, rev. 1978, Saint-Saëns Piano Trio No.1 in F, Op.18, and Beethoven's Piano Trio in B flat, Op.97 "Archduke". Concierto Con Brio, the Indiana consortium premiere, is composed by living Uruguayan-American composer and 23-24 ICO Composer-in-Residence, Miguel del Aguila. This concerto for oboe and clarinet was written for mother/son combination, Nancy Ambrose King, oboe, and Ryan King, clarinet. With movements inspired by tango and samba dance rhythms, “Concierto” balances perfectly with the French themes of imagination, light, and dance illuminated by Saint-Saëns, Ibert and Tailleferre completing the evening.

The Pomona College Band, one of the oldest college bands in the country, was founded in 1909. It is the concert band for The Claremont Colleges and is funded by Pomona College. The band’s membership is drawn from students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges, and members of the local community. Its goal is to prepare significant music in a collaborative atmosphere for performance at the highest level. They present two sets of concerts each academic year and have performed music by composers from Sousa to Bernstein and Ives to Rossini.

The concert will also feature the evocative "Dos Sonatinas" by Matilde Salvador, before delving into the contemporary works of Albert Guinovart himself. Audiences will be treated to his "Nocturno a Alicia," a selection from his "24 Preludios," the poignant "Tres Poemas Emily Dickinson," and the playful "Arlecchino."

Opening with a programme inspired by French Burlesque of the 20s and 30s, the composers Jacques Ibert, Erik Satie, Germaine Tailleferre and Darius Milhaud all had one thing in common, alongside their more traditional compositions, they were all great early film music writers, so it is no wonder their music is so roaringly vivid and pleasantly picturesque.

Celebrating 100 years since Coco Chanel sold her first bottle of No.5, this performance delves into the vibrant music that echoed through the burgeoning Parisian world of couture. The evening will feature "The Soldier's Tale," a dramatic suite by Igor Stravinsky, who was rumored to be Chanel's lover. The program also includes Germaine Tailleferre's dream-like "Image" and other exuberant pieces from Paris' Jazz Age, such as "The Creation of the World" by Darius Milhaud and "La revue de cuisine" by Bohuslav Martinů.

Under the baton of Geoffrey Larson, the orchestra will transport you to the heart of Paris with these captivating works. The concert will begin with a prelude at 7:00 PM featuring Jeremy Bacon on jazz piano, and will conclude with a postlude performance by Kim Maguire, jazz voice.

With the fascinating marriage of Valérie Milot’s harp and Stéphane Tétreault’s cello, the orchestra delivers the debut performance of Denis Gougeon’s masterful composition. Composed in a state of anguish, Shostakovich’s fifth symphony is a stunning piece that triumphed despite attempts at repression from the Soviet Union. The concert starts off with the elegant Petite suite from the French impressionist composer Germaine Tailleferre, a deliberately subtle composition featuring Les Six’s sparkling colours.

Since forming in 2010, Neave Trio – violinist Anna Williams, cellist Mikhail Veselov, and pianist Eri Nakamura – has earned enormous praise for its engaging, cutting­edge performances. WQXR explains, “‘Neave’ is actually a Gaelic name meaning ‘bright’ and ‘radiant,’ both of which certainly apply to this trio's music making.” The group’s 2019 album Her Voice, on Chandos Records, was named one of the best recordings of the year by both The New York Times and BBC Radio 3. The Boston Musical Intelligencer reports, “it is inconceivable that they will not soon be among the busiest chamber ensembles going,” and “their unanimity, communication, variety of touch, and expressive sensibility rate first tier.”

Founded in Paris in 2009, Trio Karénine bears the name of Tolstoy’s beautiful and emotionally honest heroine. The French trio is acclaimed by critics and audiences for its musical integrity and passionate interpretations, and was the top prizewinner at the ARD International Competition in 2013. The group has performed in the world’s most prestigious halls, including the Philharmonie and Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Frick Collection in New York, Salle Bourgie in Montréal, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Herkulessaal and Prinzregententheater in Münich, the Leiszhalle in Hamburg, and Sydney Opera House. The trio has just completed a highly successful return tour of Australia and is currently engaged in a full summer schedule of performances throughout France.
