The British composer Edward Elgar said “There is music in the air, music all around us, the world is full of it and you simply take as much as you require.” Composers can find the inspiration for their creativity from many different sources, including other composers. This concert pairs three composers with their composer muses.

Experience the magic of classical music at the Winspear Centre with "The Nutcracker & Mozart" concert, conducted by the talented Nicolas Ellis. This enchanting evening is scheduled for Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 7:30 PM, promising to be a highlight of the Thursday Classics series.

The concert will feature nostalgic selections from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," a beloved ballet that has become synonymous with wintery cheer. Although Mozart never composed a full ballet, his ballet music from the opera "Idomeneo" will also grace the program, showcasing his genius in integrating dance and accompanying music. The evening will be further enriched with works by 20th-century French composers Ibert and Tailleferre, adding elegance and charm to the repertoire. The program includes Ibert's "Flute Concerto" and "Hommage à Mozart," along with Tailleferre's "Petite Suite," marking its ESO premiere.

Featured artists for the night include Nicolas Ellis, making his ESO debut as conductor, Sarah Pollard on ESO flute, and the Cantilon Chamber Choir under the artistic direction of Heather Johnson. This concert will also include an intermission, allowing guests to reflect on the first half and anticipate the continuation of this musical journey.
