Adolphe Adam’s sparkling Opéra comique was an international box office hit after its world premiere in Paris in 1836: People whistled the catchy tunes along streets in European capitals and quoted punchlines from the dialogues in taverns. Even Richard Wagner sometimes hummed the well-known »Postillion song«, with its spectacular high D, when he couldn’t sleep at night. The score of this all but forgotten, masterful comedy, reveals cleverly crafted ensemble and chorus numbers in addition to fiendishly high notes and coloratura.

Jealousy leads to the uncovering of Albrecht’s true identity and the revelations drive Giselle to despair and ultimately to her death. Steve and Allison are well known in West Michigan, having sung on opera stages and musical productions locally and around the country.  Allison received her Masters of Music from Michigan State University.  Steve holds a doctorate and master’s in music from Michigan State University.  He has taught at the college level and is now Director of Music and Fine Arts at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.

With this program, the orchestra wants to give its audience a real Christmas present. In the program, we have tried to collect the most beautiful Christmas melodies and the most famous Christmas songs. Everything from Sibelius' Christmas Carol, Koppången and Klang min vackra bjällra , to Sleigh Ride and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, which are also included in the program. To help us, we have Norrköping-born Olle Persson as soloist and the choirs Bel Canto and Musikaliska Sällskapets Kammarkör. It almost couldn't get better. Here you really get the chance to fill up on all the energy and Christmas spirit needed for the holidays.
