Antoine Tamestit, violist and Artist in Residence 2024/25 of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, will play a special chamber concert in the Recital Hall of the Elbphilharmonie on June 1. He will interpret works by Bach, Brahms and Waksman, among others.

Antoine Tamestit, violist and Artist in Residence 2024/25 of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, will play a special chamber concert in the Elbphilharmonie’s Recital Hall on 1 June.

No, barroom jokes about the violin's big sister are not being rehashed here. Instead, the menu at the NDR "Bratschenwirtschaft" contains nothing but exquisite musical ingredients. Viola à la carte, so to speak. The menu is served in the small broadcasting hall by concentrated viola power: the entire vocal group of the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra plus an academic performer. Fritz Stenger-Lutz, also a former violist in the orchestra, will be presenting the program.

Lawrence Power calls the viola his mother tongue, but he has also been known to recite poetry, to conduct-even to pick up a violin. He also co-founded a cross-disciplinary video production. This adventurous British violist wowed the Aspen audience with his performance of Bartók’s Viola Concerto several summers ago, and now returns for what's sure to be an exciting evening of music!
