Senior composition students present an evening of new dance works that bring imaginative depth and wonder to the Boston Conservatory mainstage. Nine individual pieces showcase each choreographer’s unique voice and artistry, cultivated over the last four years. Sabril Amin, Katie Corrao, Tricia Dietrick, Ava Grebe, Raxel Kempenaar, Solana McGonagle, Daede Ott, Dawvyn Winters, and Monica Zesch all invite you to watch with curiosity and enjoy the cumulative work that represents our beloved modes of expression.

Senior Choreographers Concert: Dance… Will You

WinterWorks is an annual dance concert that features the mainstage debut of Boston Conservatory's first-year contemporary dance and commercial dance students performing new works created for them by alumni and guest choreographers currently working in the field. The program also presents dances by sophomore, junior, and senior student choreographers. This year’s dance makers are guest artist Jessica Franco and alumni guests Da’Rius Malone, Chung-Fu Chang, and Lydia Zimmer. The alumni guest artist residencies are made possible through the Dance Division’s Alumni Commissioning Project. Always exciting and unexpected, Boston Conservatory’s annual WinterWorks dance concert is a celebration of creativity, imagination, and firsts.

WinterWorks

This riveting and heart-warming chamber opera is a coming-of-age story about a transgender woman. The opera was praised by the Washington Post, who called it “a thoughtful and substantial piece, as well as that rarest of operatic commodities—a story that lends itself to dramatization in music."

As One

A satirist with a wicked sense of humor, there was no subject that composer Jacques Offenbach was afraid to tackle. The Island of Tulipatan, written in 1868 during a time when society thought gender to be binary, is a subversive piece questioning gender assignment and gender norms. In a Gilbert and Sullivan-like plot, Offenbach tells the tale of two people whose parents, for very "operetta plot" reasons, choose to raise them as genders different from their birth genders. With new lyrics by Jack Helbig and a new script by Gregg Opelka, this one-hour romp takes a look at and pokes fun at social norms in a style not unlike a Marx Brothers movie.

Following our highly acclaimed production last year of Britten’s Curlew River, Enigma Chamber Opera bring you another of the church parables: The Prodigal Son.

In this entirely new staging of the piece, we uncover themes of family relationships, division and reconciliation, and the part we all should seek to play in our communities. Last year’s Curlew River taught us that, even in the toughest times, we will find comfort. ‘The Prodigal Son’ shows us how we should be that comfort for those around us.
