Join us for an enchanting evening of vocal music as Paula Perez-Glassner, a talented soprano from the Northwestern Bienen School of Music, presents her student recital. Scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 6:00pm CDT, this performance will take place in the intimate setting of the McClintock Choral and Recital Room, located within the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Center for the Musical Arts.

Under the guidance of her instructor, Nancy Gustafson, Paula will showcase her vocal prowess through a diverse repertoire. The evening will feature a selection of works ranging from the baroque elegance of George Frideric Handel's "L’empio rigor del fato" from Rodelinda to the contemporary charm of Mark Adamo's "Joy beyond measure, Mother" from Little Women. Attendees will also be treated to the romantic melodies of Claude Debussy, including "Clair de lune," "Nuit d’étoiles," and "Mandoline," as well as the captivating tunes of Robert Stolz and the timeless classics of Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerry Bock, and Lucy Simon.

Accompanying Paula on this musical journey will be Peggy Helman, mezzo-soprano, and Jason Carlson on piano, adding depth and harmony to the evening's performance.

This event is free and open to the public, with no tickets required. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream will be available, ensuring that no one misses out on this showcase of emerging musical talent.

BMOP presents the East Coast premiere of composer John Corigliano and librettist Mark Adamo's striking new opera, The Lord of Cries. Weaving Bram Stoker's Dracula with Euripides's tragedy The Bacchae, Corigliano and Adamo lead the listener through a fever dream of ecstasy and ruin set in Victorian England. Featuring GRAMMY® Award-winning countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo as the supernatural Dionysus-cum-Dracula, Lord of Cries reimagines timeless themes for contemporary audiences.

Experience the captivating artistry of the Nashville Symphony under the baton of Leonard Slatkin, featuring the exceptional talents of Israeli-American cellist Inbal Segev. This concert presents a compelling program that bridges classical and contemporary music. The evening opens with the lively and spirited Overture to La gazza ladra by Gioachino Rossini, setting an energetic tone for the night.

Inbal Segev, renowned for her profound interpretations of modern cello compositions, will perform Mark Adamo’s Last Year. This piece offers a fresh, cinematic reimagining of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, blending familiar themes with contemporary sensibilities to create a unique auditory experience.

The program culminates with Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, a work celebrated for its emotional depth and sweeping melodies. Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony is a journey through a range of human emotions, from melancholy to triumph, and remains one of the most beloved pieces in the symphonic repertoire.

Before the concert, attendees can enrich their experience by participating in Classical Conversations, a discussion held in the Balcony Lobby that delves into the evening’s program. This event promises a night of exceptional music, showcasing the synergy between classical masterpieces and modern interpretations.
