Back by popular demand, Crystal Pite’s mesmerizing The Seasons’ Canon features 54 dancers moving as one organism to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, recomposed by Max Richter. Pite’s opus is complemented by Twyla Tharp’s Shaker-inspired Sweet Fields and Jessica Lang’s stunning solo work, The Calling.

The lineup includes a world premiere by Aszure Barton and three masterwork reconstructions: 18+1 by Gustavo Sansano, D-Man in the Waters by Bill T. Jones, and The Constant Shift of Pulse by Doug Varone.

Following the roaring success of his Beatles tribute production Pepperland, Mark Morris teams up again with musical collaborator Ethan Iverson for The Look of Love, a fresh and heartfelt homage to the chart-topping songs of Burt Bacharach. A towering figure through decades of popular music, Bacharach is known for his soaring melodies embedded in unique orchestrations influenced by jazz, rock, and Brazilian music, his longtime lyricist Hal David providing unsentimental, often bittersweet lyrics. For this new production, Iverson’s lush arrangements are performed live by an ensemble of lead singer with backup vocals, trumpet, and rhythm section. Morris says, “Always engaging melodically, always surprising rhythmically, with a touch of melancholy and a striving hope, Bacharach’s marvelous music calls out for dancing!”

A work for seven dancers, Children’s Songs Dance by Jessica Lang takes its name from the music. Set to selections from Children’s Songs by the late American jazz composer Chick Corea, the ballet was created on ABT Studio Company in January 2020 during a residency at The Pocantico Center in Tarrytown, New York. According to Lang, Children’s Songs Dance “draws its inspiration from the transition in life between being a child and becoming an adult, with the goal of never losing the spirit of play.”
