The Wind Symphony welcomes world-renowned composer, David Amram, for the premiere performance of the band version of his orchestra work This Land: Symphonic Variations on a Song by Woody Guthrie. DMA Wind Conducting student Shawn Davern will conduct the Wind Symphony on this transcription, completed by Davern in collaboration with the composer. The program also includes William Schuman’s New England Triptych and Sousa's The Liberty Bell March.

Join the San Jose Metropolitan Band for our spring concert, Viva l’Italia! We will be presenting an exciting preview of the program that we will be performing during our June concert tour of Italy. Led by our director Ken Nakamoto, we will be featuring an eclectic program of concert band music from the early 1900s through today. We will feature the world premiere of The Power of Two, by local up-and-coming composer Vivian Le. In a nod to our host country, we will be playing The Pines of the Appian Way, from Ottorino Respighi’s tone poem Pines of Rome, and the Italian National Anthem. From this side of the Atlantic, we will feature the concert band classic Chester (William Schuman), West Highlands Sojourn (Robert Sheldon), Chasing Sunlight (Cait Nishimura), and the iconic The Stars and Stripes Forever (John Philip Sousa). Summer wouldn’t have the same sizzle without a patriotic concert by your Space Coast Symphony Wind Orchestra. This FREE red, white and blue concert will honor all those who have worn our nation’s uniform. This all-American program will showcase our national heritage, as conductor Aaron T. Collins directs the wind orchestra with music by Mark Piszczek, Eric Whitacre, Lee Greenwood, and marches from “The March King,” John Philip Sousa.  The concert features Eric Whitacre’s thrilling Ghost Train.  In this highly programmatic work, Eric transforms a story from American folklore of a supernatural locomotive that roars throughout the Western U.S. Rich in special effects and unique compositional techniques, this dynamic piece creates vivid aural images as the train leaves the station and passes through a varied landscape. The concert will also feature the World Premiere of Mark Piszczek’s American Frontier Suite, a new version for wind band which features songs from the Old West and American frontier, including “Bury Me Not on The Lone Prairie,” “Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” “Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Red River Valley” and others.

Tower Music is one of the oldest traditions at the Carmel Bach Festival. It began in 1936 with the Heralding Trombones, led by two generations of the Stewart Family, Chandler and son Gordon, and the trombone quartet opened every Festival in the early days. The Stewart Family performed well into the 1960’s until the Festival Orchestra brass section was asked to carry on the tradition as it does today. They played from the balcony window of the old Sunset Auditorium which opened onto the parking lot – the window is still there, overlooking the foyer – and from the Carmel Mission bell tower, thus earning the nickname “Tower Music.”

The program features three beloved works by George Balanchine: the drama-packed one-act version of "Swan Lake," set to Tchaikovsky's haunting score, which captures the rapture, heartache, and tragedy of two doomed lovers; "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," a charming interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale, showcasing a bittersweet romance between a paper doll ballerina and a toy soldier, set to Bizet's music; and "Stars and Stripes," a vibrant, all-American tribute to John Philip Sousa's marches, complete with Karinska's delightful costumes. Additionally, the program celebrates the 50th anniversary of "Coppélia" with additional scenes from this delightful tale of a mad inventor and his life-like doll, a story ballet done to perfection according to The New York Times.

This event not only showcases the brilliance of Balanchine's choreography but also offers a unique opportunity to enjoy classical ballet in the beautiful setting of the SPAC Amphitheater. With a capacity for 25,000 people, including sheltered seats and a sloping lawn, the venue ensures an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
