Summer wouldn’t have the same sizzle without a patriotic concert by your Space Coast Symphony Wind Orchestra. This FREE red, white and blue concert will honor all those who have worn our nation’s uniform. This all-American program will showcase our national heritage, as conductor Aaron T. Collins directs the wind orchestra with music by Mark Piszczek, Eric Whitacre, Lee Greenwood, and marches from “The March King,” John Philip Sousa.  The concert features Eric Whitacre’s thrilling Ghost Train.  In this highly programmatic work, Eric transforms a story from American folklore of a supernatural locomotive that roars throughout the Western U.S. Rich in special effects and unique compositional techniques, this dynamic piece creates vivid aural images as the train leaves the station and passes through a varied landscape. The concert will also feature the World Premiere of Mark Piszczek’s American Frontier Suite, a new version for wind band which features songs from the Old West and American frontier, including “Bury Me Not on The Lone Prairie,” “Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” “Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Red River Valley” and others.

Tower Music is one of the oldest traditions at the Carmel Bach Festival. It began in 1936 with the Heralding Trombones, led by two generations of the Stewart Family, Chandler and son Gordon, and the trombone quartet opened every Festival in the early days. The Stewart Family performed well into the 1960’s until the Festival Orchestra brass section was asked to carry on the tradition as it does today. They played from the balcony window of the old Sunset Auditorium which opened onto the parking lot – the window is still there, overlooking the foyer – and from the Carmel Mission bell tower, thus earning the nickname “Tower Music.”

This free outdoor concert offers a delightful evening under the stars, featuring a diverse program that includes timeless classics, Broadway themes, and patriotic favorites. The performance celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Garden State with pieces like John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare and John Philip Sousa’s Atlantic City Pageant March. 

The symphony will perform a variety of beloved compositions, including the stirring Star Spangled Banner by John Stafford Smith and Damrosch, the elegant Polonaise from Eugene Onegin by Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and the dramatic Overture to Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi. Audiences will also be treated to the beautiful Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Peter Mascagni and selections from Georges Bizet’s Carmen.

Adding to the evening’s charm, the program includes Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout, Aaron Copland’s Saturday Night Waltz and Hoe Down from Rodeo, and selections from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess arranged by Bennett. The concert will also feature a tribute to Frank Sinatra with Salute to Ol’ Blue Eyes, an Armed Forces Salute arranged by Lowden, and the rousing Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
