As a globally sought-after specialist and interpreter of early music, he regularly unearths pieces from the Baroque to the Bel Canto era: Attilio Cremonesi has compiled rarities from the 18th century for this program. From the so-called Age of Sensibility come the first examples of the emerging genre of symphony, whose development into the classical form in Haydn can be observed in this concert. These are complemented by artful concert arias, sung by soprano Josefine Mindus from the music theater ensemble.

Our season concludes with music that inspires peace and hope in times of upheaval and uncertainty. The tranquility of the English countryside in The Banks of Green Willow, Silvestrov's serene and meditative prayer for Peace in Ukraine, and the sacred a cappella choruses of The Peaceable Kingdom lead us to Haydn's powerful and climactic choral work. Widely acknowledged as a call for peace, the jubilant finale reflects strength and hope.

Dalhousie Arts Centre

What music would Louis Langrée have if he was stranded on a desert island? This concert answers that question! Bookended by two very different dances, a foxtrot for orchestra celebrating John Adams’ 80th birthday, written while working on his famous opera Nixon in China, the other a raucous, earthy (peasant-ish) dance from the other side of the planet by Zoltán Kodály. The middle of the program is centered around elegant, sensitive, romantic gestures that can only be achieved by composers Schumann and Haydn.
