Since coming together as a quartet in 1993 and making their debut in 1996, the Jerusalem Quartet has impressed critics and moved audiences with striking interpretations of time-tested quartet repertoire and beyond. The centerpiece of this program is the Quartetto Concertante, op 55, by Pedro Ximenez Abrill Tirado (1784-1856), the most prolific South American composer of the first half of the 19th century. Ximenez, born in Peru during the independence movement that led to the country’s founding, hosted a famous salon at his home that was celebrated by artists and revolutionaries alike. At the invitation of the Bolivian president in 1833, Ximenez became Maestro de Capilla in Sucre, the Bolivian capital, a post he held until his death. The first half of the program includes favorites from Ximenez’s European contemporaries, Boccherini, Haydn, and Mozart.

For the past 25 years, Claire Compton has been the principal oboist for the Florence Symphony Orchestra. She has played as a soloist in churches throughout the state and enjoys playing with the Masterworks Choir of Florence, the Lexington County Choral Society, the Dutch Fork Choral Society and the Columbia Choral Society.

A string trio with four instruments? A harpsichord hiding behind the cello? The Valencia Baryton Project has dedicated itself to the performance of music written for an ancient and little-known instrument, the baryton. A cross between the viola da gamba and lirone, with 10 resonating and plucked strings down the back of the instrument, the baryton gives the traditional string trio an entirely new dimension.

Jorge Vera started his musical journey in his hometown, Pirayú (Paraguay), thanks to a social program named Sonidos de la Tierra, and years later, at the Escuela Musical Miranda. In 2017, he was part of the Youth-Classics Orchestra in Switzerland and the European tour with the baroque orchestra Sonidos de Paraqvaria. Moreover, he was part of several music festivals in South America. Jorge was a prize winner at the First Violin Competition in Paraguay, the Chamber Music Competition Lorenzo Livieres Banks, and the Golden State International Music Competition. His commitment to making music education available to everyone took him to rural areas in the countryside of Paraguay to teach violin for seven years, where he additionally was a conductor of the Orquesta Juvenil Ovetense. Currently, Jorge is studying with Professor William van der Sloot in the Master of Music Performance program at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music.

Ryan Person serves as director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa. At Morningside, he conducts the forty-member Morningside Choir, which has been celebrated for its exceptional choral artistry and eclectic programming. The ensemble recently performed at ACDA National Conference, ACDA Midwestern Region Conference, and was selected as the winner of The American Prize in Choral Performance (College/University Division), a comprehensive national performing arts competition. Under Person’s direction, The Morningside Choir has traveled to continental and international locations, including South Africa, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

Snowbelt Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Nataliya Pshenychna steps to the front of the orchestra to perform Haydn's virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 1. Arnold's concerto is particularly notable for its second movement, "Blue Scherzo," a tribute to the legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt.

The program also includes Haydn's Symphony No. 30 in C major, known as the "Alleluia Symphony" for its use of a Gregorian Alleluia chant in the opening movement. This symphony, possibly written for Easter Sunday of 1765, reflects Haydn's masterful composition skills at the age of 33.

The concert will conclude with Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C major, K551, famously known as the "Jupiter Symphony." This grand and majestic piece is Mozart's last and longest symphony, often hailed as one of the greatest symphonies in classical music.
