Darius Jones has created a recognizable voice as a critically acclaimed saxophonist and composer by embracing individuality and innovation in the tradition of Black music across all musical classifications –  traditional jazz, electro-acoustic, chamber music, contemporary and avant-garde jazz, and more. fLuXkit Sextet, a new project developed by Darius Jones at Western Front, an artist-run center in Vancouver, Canada, is a set of rigorous and expansive compositions for saxophone, violins, cello, bass, and drums.

The Bergamot Quartet—Ledah Finck (BM ’16, MM ‘18, Violin); Sarah Thomas (BM ’17, MM ’19 Violin); Amy Huimei Tan (GPD ’20, Viola); and Irène Han (MM ’18, Cello)—performs Tania Leon’s Escencia as part of CUNY’s conversation and concert spotlight of the celebrated Cuban-American composer December 11; the in-person event will also be livestreamed.

earspace, the contemporary multi-sensory performance ensemble co-directed by Richard Drehoff Jr. (MM ’18, Composition, Music Theory Pedagogy) that includes Ledah Finck (BM ’16, MM ’18, Violin), spends part of December in residence at Duke University and is joined by soprano Ah Young Hong (BM ’98, MM ’01, Voice), a faculty artist, for a concert in Baldwin Auditorium, December 8, at 8:00 pm EST, that includes faculty composer Michael Hersh’s (BM ’95, MM ’97, Composition) one step to the next, worlds ending, Drehoff’s Evacuate the bones, let the skin hang dry, and works by Duke graduate student composers.
